What is Bright Haven & How Does it Work?

Bright Haven combines the best clean/closed door romance stories with world-class filtering tools, an unlimited app of eBooks and audiobooks, and a community of dedicated readers and writers.

How Much Does it Cost?

Annual subscription: $99.99 for 12 months (less than $8.50 per month), includes unlimited access to all books, filtering tools, premium events, panels, podcasts, book clubs, and more.

Monthly subscription: $11.99 per month with no long-term commitment, includes the same features as the annual plan.

Free subscription: Access to over 300 free audiobooks and e-books, full access to the book search tool, and the Bright Haven Community.

How Long Does the Free Trial Last?

The Bright Haven free subscription is currently available as an unlimited trial and does not expire.

While we expect to keep it that way, Bright Haven reserves the right to change, pause, or modify free access in the future as the library and services evolve.

But any updates will be communicated clearly so you always know what to expect.

What Devices Can I Access Bright Haven eBooks & Audiobooks on?

Bright Haven books can be enjoyed in the Bright Haven app on both iOS and Android devices, and you can also read in our web-based reader from a computer or tablet—so your library is available wherever you like to read.



Does the App Really Offer Unlimited eBooks & Audiobooks?

Unlike many apps that advertise “unlimited” reading and listening but quietly add special rules behind the scenes, Bright Haven keeps it simple.

With a paid subscription, we do not restrict which titles you can access, how many eBooks and audiobooks you can enjoy, or throttle you service after you've used a certain amount of data.

The only limit is how many great stories you feel like diving into.

Why Are There Three Separate Tools, & Why Do I Have to Create Two Logins?

First, let me say, I know. We hate it too, and this wasn't our plan for rolling things out, but we figured let's get you your books now.

In the coming weeks and months, our plan is to roll out Single Sign-On (SSO) so one login works across all three tools—and even better, to combine everything into one Bright Haven app. Until then, here’s the simplest way to keep it all straight.

As soon as you register for any Bright Haven subscription, you’ll receive two emails.

Email #1: Bright Haven account (billing + settings)

This email asks you to create your Bright Haven password. That login is for your subscription account—updating your plan, changing payment info, viewing billing history, and managing account details.

The first time you enter the Bright Haven Community, choose “Login with Bright Haven.” Use the same email and password you just created for your Bright Haven account.

Email #2: eReader account (reading + listening)

This second email asks you to set a password for the eReader. Yes, it’s a second password. Yes, we also wish it wasn't necessary. The good news: it’s a one-time setup, and after that you’re good to go.

A couple quick tips to avoid headaches:

  • Use the same email/password for all three apps to make it easier when we combine them.
  • If access ever looks “off,” it usually means you’re signed into the eReader or Community with a different email than the one you subscribed with—log out and back in with the subscription email.

    Still stuck? No worries—send us a quick message with the email you subscribed with and which app is giving you trouble (Account, Community, or eReader), and we’ll get things sorted out for you fast.

Are All Bright Haven books "clean romances?"

Yes. Every Bright Haven title is selected and rated to fit our clean, closed-door romance standard. That means you can expect romance that focuses on emotional connection and uplifting storytelling, without explicit on-page sex or graphic sexual content.

Each book also includes clear content ratings and tags (like pepper level, language, and sensitive-theme notes) so you can choose stories that match your comfort level and reading preferences.

Isn't That Censorship?

Bright Haven does not believe in limiting what anyone can read. Readers should always have the freedom to choose the stories that are right for them, and authors should always have the freedom to write the stories they want to tell.

What we do believe in is helping readers find what they are looking for without surprises—and creating a space where a specific kind of romance is easy to discover and enjoy.

While there are many wonderful places to find steamy romance and other genres, Bright Haven was built for readers who prefer their stories to feel uplifting, emotionally satisfying, and comfortable—romance that leans into heart, hope, and genuine connection, with clear boundaries and no explicit sexual content.

Our goal is not to judge anyone’s taste, but to serve a community of readers who have been looking for a reliable “this is for me” place to read.

Do You Offer Family Plans With Different Logins for different readers?

Not yet, but we're working fast to get it out, and we'll be offering special discounted pricing to existing subscribers.

Is There a Way to Set Permanent Child Filters for my Family?

Right now, you have to manually search for books using the existing filtering tools. While this is a great first step, we plan on releasing "Family Filters" you can set and forget for different subscribers soon.

I am a Clean Romance Author/Publisher. How Do I Add my Books to Bright Haven?

Bright Haven is a curated library, which means we carefully select the authors and titles we include so we can keep the reading experience consistently high for our members. At this time, we are not accepting new authors.

Library and Search Tools

Bright Haven believes you have the right to find exactly what you do, and don't, want to read in our clean romance library.

Start by selecting a genre, then use the filters on the left to narrow the catalog to your preferences. You can filter by access, romance intensity (peppers), audience, format, content levels, sensitive themes, and worldview/representation.

How do the Bright Haven Filters Work?

You can use as many or as few filters as you like to zero in on the kind of book you are in the mood for. Each time you select another option, the list updates and the results get more specific, so it becomes easier to find your perfect match. As the results narrow, you may notice some filter choices disappear—this simply means there are not any books in the current results that match those options. If you want to start fresh, you can clear your selections at any time by scrolling back to the top and unchecking the options you chose.

How do I Read the Books I Have Selected?

Once you find the books you want to read or listen to, you can head over to the Bright Haven app, search for those titles, and download them to your library so they are ready whenever you are.

And we're working on making it even easier—soon you will be able to download books directly from the website search tool, too.

What if I Can't Find a Specific Book or Author?

Bright Haven is built around a curated collection of clean romance we genuinely love—handpicked from some of the best authors we can find, with new titles being added regularly.

That said, there may be a favorite author or book you are looking for that we do not have yet.

If there is an author or specific title you would love to see in Bright Haven, please email our president at Jeff@Brighthavenbooks.com and he will do his best to explore adding them the next time we are open to welcoming new authors.

Search, Show, and Sort

Use the Search tool at the top of the page to search books by category, author, title, keywords, and more. Show sets the number of titles listed per page. Sort allows you to arrange the books by title, author, pub date, and others.

Subscription Access

Trial users can can access more than 300 eBooks and audiobooks. Monthly and annual subscribers may download all titles.

Peppers (Closed-Door Romance Intensity)

Choose the level of romantic heat you prefer while staying within Bright Haven’s closed-door standard.

One pepper is the gentlest (hugs, hand-holding, brief kisses), two peppers adds stronger chemistry (longer kisses, cuddling, light touch), and three peppers is the most intense (passionate kissing; intimacy remains off-page).



Subgenre

Narrow by the story flavor you are craving—tropes, settings, and romance “vibes” like Small Town, Billionaire, Holiday, Regency, Romantic Suspense, Paranormal, Time Travel, Workplace, and more.

Try combining genres and one or more subgenres to find things like Historical Western Time Travel.

Audience (Reader Age Category)

Filter by life stage and general tone. Young Adult and Upper YA focus on teen protagonists (YA is typically the mildest), New Adult centers on ages 18–25 and early adulthood themes, while Adult generally features older protagonists and more mature life circumstances.

Content Levels (Profanity, Violence, Substances)

Set your comfort level for language, action/peril, and references to alcohol/tobacco/drugs using a simple Level 1–3 scale (None, Mild, Moderate).


Sensitive Themes (Include / Exclude)

Control heavier topics.

“Exclude” steers clear of triggers you want to avoid, while “Include” can help you find stories that handle sensitive themes in a thoughtful way.

Worldview and Representation (Include / Exclude)

Use the include and exclude tools to find the characters, beliefs, tropes, and themes you're looking for, while avoiding the ones you aren't interested in.

The Bright Haven Community

The Bright Haven Community is a place where clean romance readers can connect with other readers who love the same kinds of stories. Chat about favorite books, authors, characters, and memorable quotes, and join in fun events like monthly book clubs, online panels, and author Q&As.

Find the latest news on upcoming releases, cover reveals, and occasional ARC giveaways. Participate in challenges to earn badges and points—making your reading life feel a little more social, a little more rewarding, and a lot more fun.

Who Can Join the Community?

Anyone with a Bright Haven subscription can join the Bright Haven Community, including free members.

Our goal is for the community to feel welcoming and active for everyone—whether you are here to chat about books, join discussions, or keep up with announcements and events.

For a few live experiences with limited attendee spots (like certain book clubs or small-group events), paid subscribers will typically get the first opportunity to register, but we are building the community so that participation is not just for paid members.

What are Spaces and How do They Work?

In the Bright Haven Community, “Spaces” are the different rooms inside the community—each one organized around a topic, activity, or type of content

Bright Haven includes reader Spaces like the Common Room, Spoiler-Free Genre Chats, Spoiler-Friendly Genre Chats, Recommended Reads, and Favorite Quotes—plus author Spaces where authors can share cover reveals, book links, announcements, and updates.

You’ll also find Spaces for monthly book clubs across all seven main genres, reading challenges, and other community activities as we add new events and ways to participate.

Can I Use the Community to Get Book Recommendations?


Yes—the Bright Haven Community is a great place to find your next favorite read.

You can browse the Recommended Reads space to see what other members are loving, ask the community directly for suggestions based on your mood or preferences, or use our personalized AI helper, Jane the Book Recommender, to get custom recommendations tailored to exactly what you want and don't want.

What Kinds of Events Will I Find in the Community?

Bright Haven events are designed to make reading more fun and more connected—whether you love meeting authors, joining a lively discussion, or just getting swept up in a themed reading moment.

We host author interviews and Q&As, book clubs and read-alongs, cover reveals, seasonal reading events, and community challenges that give you an extra reason to pick up your next book and share what you are loving.

As soon as the community goes live and starts filling up, we will begin adding events regularly. Be sure to check the Community Calendar often, and subscribe to News and Events updates so you do not miss new book clubs, limited-seat live sessions, and special announcements.

How do I Join an Event?

To join an event, open it inside the Bright Haven Community and sign up. Some event spaces unlock automatically as soon as you join, so you can jump right into the action.

Others, require you to RSVP for a specific date of event.



How do I Report Inappropriate Activity?

If you see something that feels inappropriate or concerning, please use the Report option on the post, comment, or message, or message an admin directly. Every report is reviewed by our human and AI moderation team, typically within 24 hours, so we can respond quickly and keep the community welcoming and safe.

If someone breaks a community rule, we handle it case by case. Depending on the situation, actions may include a warning, removal of the post or comment, or a temporary or permanent suspension from the community. Content that is provocative, unsafe, or clearly out of bounds is flagged and addressed promptly.

Can I send direct messages (DMs) to other members?

For your safety and comfort, direct messaging between members is currently disabled.

What is the Bright Haven Reader?

The Bright Haven Reader is where you access your Bright Haven bookshelf and enjoy your books—online or after downloading for offline reading.

How Do I Sign In?

Sign in using the same username and password you created for your Bright Haven account. Your username must be at least 6 characters and your password must be at least 8 characters for the Sign In button to work.

Please be aware that until we implement Single Sign On (SSO) which we hope will be soon, changing your Bright Haven subscription/Community login doesn't change your reader login, and the other way around.

I Forgot my Password. What do I do?

On the sign-in screen, select Recover Password, enter your registered email address, and we’ll send you a password reset email.

Again, remember that until we implement SSO in the coming weeks, changing your Reader password will not change your Bright Haven account password.

What is the Bookshelf and How Does it Work?

Your Bookshelf is your home base inside the reader—it displays the titles available to you, organized into categories so you can browse, read, or download.

All shows everything available on your shelf. Recently Accessed shows what you opened most recently. Download shows titles you’ve downloaded. Favorite lets you save titles for quick access.

Why Can I Only Read or Listen to Some of the Titles?

Unlike most apps that offer a trial for just a few days (or two weeks at most), Bright Haven’s free trial does not expire—so you can take your time exploring the reader, the app, and the kinds of stories you enjoy.

Because the trial is unlimited, access is limited to a smaller “Included in Free Trial” collection of just over 300 titles. By upgrading to a paid subscription any time, you can unlock the full Bright Haven library.

How do I Search for a Book on my Shelf?

Use the Search icon to open the search field, then type a title, author, ISBN, key words, metadata settings, or even a brief description. The reader also keeps your 5 most recent searches for quick reuse.

Why Can't I Just Download Books From the Search & Filter Tool?

It's coming soon! We promise.

What is “More Info” on a Book?

More Info opens the book details page where you can see the cover, description, and key metadata (like author, series, peppers, etc.), view the table of contents, and start reading with Read Now.

Be aware that Sensitive Themes are also listed here. So if you don't want spoilers, don't look.

How do I Start Reading a Book?

You can start listen to any audiobook instantly by clicking play. If you would like to download it, click the three dots beneath the cover on the main screen> About This Audio>Download and the audio file will download into your bookshelf.

For eBooks, select a title (or open More Info) and choose Read Now to download the book into your bookshelf.

How do I Navigate an eBook or Audiobook?

Use the Table of Contents to jump straight to a chapter or section anytime. If you want to save your place, add a bookmark while you’re reading or listening—your bookmarks are organized by the Table of Contents so they are easy to find later.

If you are looking for a specific moment or phrase, use Search inside the book to type a keyword and jump right to the results without endless scrolling.

How can I Personalize my Reading Experience?

You can highlight meaningful passages and add notes as you read—whether you want to mark a single line or save thoughts tied to a longer section for context.

Everything you create is collected in My Data, where you can quickly find, review, and organize your highlights and notes (including by color).

If you would like to share what you have saved, you can share highlights and notes and control visibility through your settings.

Can I Read and Listen Offline?

Yes, as long as the books are in your library, you can listen offline, but you if you are offline for several days, you will be prompted to connect to maintain your account status.

How Do I Change My Settings, Subscription, etc.?

Open Profile to access your eReader settings. From Profile Settings you can edit your name and profile picture, update your password, manage active sessions, choose language, and view app info, privacy policy, and terms.

To change fonts, alignment, spacing, margins, mode, and how you turn pages, open any book and tap the Aa in the bottom right hand corner. Currently these settings can only be changed per book, but that will be updated soon.
