The Christmas Cottage
The Christmas Cottage
Spending a charming Christmas in the English countryside sounds perfect as long as he doesn’t show up…
Ella Roberts is ecstatic to be heading to Bakewell to spend Christmas with her sister and brother-in-law, the new Earl and Countess Sherbourne, and represent her family at the holiday reception they’re hosting at Langley Park. She’s also excited to visit the Peak District, inspiration for Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. However, she’s determined to avoid the most arrogant and irritatingly handsome man, Baird MacLauren. One unforgettable kiss is one too many.
Baird MacLauren was happy to serve as the best man for Alec Sherbourne’s wedding in the San Juan Islands, but he didn’t expect the sparks and chemistry with the bride’s stunning sister. The intense chemistry is too powerful for the rational Scot, and after a passionate kiss, he rejected Ella as the most logical action. He has no room in his life for emotion and plans to avoid Ella during her visit. But when an emergency keeps Alec in London days before Christmas, Baird steps in to help until Alec can arrive home to Langley Park.
With Christmas upon them, Ella and Baird must work together to ensure Cara and the Sherbournes will have the perfect holiday. Can the magic of the season bring these two opposites together?

Not quite a riveting as the first book - Once upon a Christmas - which was excellent, this second novel lacked the angst and characters of the first book. Same place, similar experiences, but the original characters just popped in and out of this read, not really contributing much at all. This novel is mostly about the two main characters. Something just was missing for me, I don't know what, although I did enjoy reading the story..... needed a bit more punch I think. An author to keep an eye on though.
What a wonderful book. I read the first book a while ago and that was brill. I found the second book by mistake ( thank you) So pleased , everyone please read.
I am a sucker for Christmas stories and this one was everything I could want in one! This is book 2 in the Langley Park series, both can be read as a stand alone, but I think they go very nicely together. This is Ella and Baird's story. Ella is Cara from book 1's sister and Baird is Alec's best friend. It was fun to get an update on them as well as revisit the English estate again. I would love to visit the UK at Christmas time, on my someday list for sure. It was nice to be drawn into the story and almost feel like I was there. Ella and Baird shared a toe curling kiss at Cara and Alec's wedding, and then he apologised and disappeared, Ella was crushed and then angry. She hoped that she could avoid he on this trip, but fate had other plans. If you like to curl up with a blanket and read a holiday story, this one is perfect!
This book reads like a Christmas movie set in England, complete with an American woman on vacation and a Scot who's a bit of a bear. Get yourself a cuppa tea and a scone and settle in for this romance which will warm your heart during the holiday season.Ella went to England to visit her sister for Christmas and was surprised to be met by a man she hoped to avoid--Baird. At her sister's wedding, they had a moment of passionate kissing, then he left without saying goodbye. Even worse, he's staying in the cottage she was promised for the duration of the visit.A compromise to share the cottage means close quarters, but she can handle it. They have a lot to do for Cara when her husband Alec is unable to leave London, there are presents to buy, relatives coming, and Christmas itself.Baird is a bit reserved and he has no plans for a family in his future. His job has shown him the ugly side of family law, and it's convinced him love's not worth the risk. But spending time with Ella chips at his heart little by little, and there's a spark.'Tis the season for all things Christmas, the holiday hustle and bustle bringing out feelings, but is it enough to span an ocean and a continent for a forever love?
The book had some twists and turns and then love prevailed. It was a great escape. I love the contrast between English and Scottish culture and American.
