A false engagement. A mysterious coast. Two reluctant hearts.

Much to her father’s dismay, Miss Amelia Buxton aspires to become a spinster, just like her eccentric aunt. Growing up with parents who married for every reason but love, she has never seen a joyful marriage. When Amelia requests a summer trip to the legendary waters of Brighton, her father allows her the excursion, but with one requirement: she must return engaged, or agree to the proposal of the man of his choosing.

Crawling with tourists, Brighton is not the town Adam Claridge once loved. When his sister Eleanor disappears without warning, Adam is desperate to bring her home. In his search, he happens upon Miss Amelia Buxton, a young tourist that proves vital in his search for Eleanor. But Amelia is conducting a search of her own—a search for a husband—and Adam has little choice but to offer a fair trade: he will play the role of Amelia’s betrothed in exchange for her assistance in finding Eleanor.

Convenient at first, Amelia and Adam’s arrangement quickly plummets into disarray. Falling in love had not been part of their bargain.

clean romance

Four and a half stars for the witty romance around a mystery to be solved.

I enjoyed the characters and how they interacted and the plot line kept me interested and wanting to solve the mystery. I felt for those that were hurting.

I look forward to the next in the series if this is just a taste of what is to come!

Sweet story

This is a rather different story, which is refreshing. I did enjoy the integrity of the characters and that none of them had bad intentions towards others. Because the heroine had the courage to follow her conscience, the hero's family came to know the truth. This is an enjoyable book.

This book made me lol!

I loved this book! It is the first in a series and the first I have read by this author. I am thrilled to say it made me lol!!! That is truly a successful story! It was a delight to follow Amelia and her aunt's time in Brighton. I am eager to read more from this author and the next in the Brighton series. I highly recommend this book if you like clean, fun, regency romances.

Amelia and Adam

Short, sweet and at times fun story. I enjoyed the humor and at times, giggled out loud! The supposed search for the mysterious missing cat in Miss Darby’s hedge, and the wig…lol

Adam’s character was hard to understand. One minute, he was Mr. Grouchy Pants and the next, he was drowning in the depths of Amelia’s eyes.

Loved Aunt Margaret! And another reviewer was correct, in that awful Mr. Booth deserved a lot more than he got!
