Carolina Johnson had the life everyone wanted. A solid marriage of twenty years. A gorgeous house in the most desirable neighborhood. Friends at the country club. Yet, somehow, she always felt the other shoe would drop.

And drop it did! When she discovered her husband’s affair with a girl half his age. Even more devastating, she’s pregnant.

Now divorced, she has to start over in a lake house with too many issues to list, a neighbor who doesn’t like her and zero friends. To make matters worse, her outrageously rude former mother-in-law shows up and expects to spend a few days.

At forty years of age, Carolina has to start her life over from scratch and draw on the last vestiges of strength she has to make a life for herself.

A new life, new problems, and new relationships…can Carolina find out what matters the most in life and discover what true love really looks like? Or will she refuse to let go of the past and the bitterness that threatens to steal her happiness?

This women’s divorce fiction book will have you rooting for the heroine and everything she has to overcome.

loved it

A fairly simple everyday story, but full of characters that enlighten and enlarge it. Descriptive writing allows the reader to see the story unfold.A short enjoyable story that is completely clean.

An Enjoyable Beginning to The Series

I read this story in a couple of days, it kept my attention and also wanting to know what would happen next. Always good signs!😏Sometimes life DOES pile on more than what any one person can/should bear, especially alone. The main character, Carolina is inundated with bad luck and no breaks after her creep of a husband dumps her. But goodness does prevail and the story ends on an upbeat note and an opportunity to read more in Book 2, which I will check out soon.Spoiler!!!One star off as I did think that Carolina was too naive overall for a woman in her 40s. The ongoing nonsense with her ex "monster in law" (in particular) was just too farfetched to believe.Geraldine Helen Hartman author of,"Third Chapter, Second Chance" (a midlife romance)❤

Don't like it

There were numerous grammatical errors throughout the book, the most prominent being missing commas, that detracted from the story. The writing style itself seemed more undeveloped than I would have expected from such a seasoned author. Dialogue often seemed stilted, and the bad things that happened to Carolina took up probably 90% or more of the book. And then the new romantic interest portion takes a few pages at the very end, with no tension or obstacles, or really any romance. Additionally, so many things just didn’t seem to fit the storyline. Thomas was introduced as the typical grumpy loner type but that didn’t really play out in the story. He supposedly isn’t over his wife’s death and yet he didn’t appear to have any issues with that. Rebecca was very eager to ensure that Carolina hire him to fix her roof, but it was never explained why. Near the end of the book was a big issue regarding a purchase of some furniture for her home and yet she never noticed it there?? Her ex came from a very wealthy family and at the time of their marriage it was just him and his mom, who doted on him, and yet he claims they didn’t have much money when they were first married. The whole thing just didn’t ring true for me.Mainly, just sillyI could not determine if it was supposed to be humorous or what. I will list a few of the silly things: a contemporary woman stays home, doesn't work , doesn't have children; all of sudden husband announces affair and marrying pregnant girlfriend and divorce right away and main character locked out of house; she gets the lake house which is in shambles; ex- mother in law shows up at her front door because she didn't know her son was divorcing the main character and it goes on and on. I cannot believe the glowing reviews for this book. The writing is juvenile, the plot thin, the dialogue too cute, the characters overdrawn eg the mother-in-law, the ex-husband, and the number of misfortunes that befall the main character is ridiculous. In addition, every second person in the community seems to have died or bolted. Anybody seeking a stimulating, well written story that encourages thinking and appropriate emotional involvement certainly won’t find it here.Won't read anything else from this author
