Was a intresting read

Learned a lot from reading this book about younger sons. Heroine was lovely and the Hero's spirit a bit broken. Wish the story was longer ended a bit too soon.

So far I’ve loved reading everything this author has written. M A Nichols has great characters and interesting stories where the main characters mature to know themselves better and grow in love with their partners.

Masterful writing

You do not have to read any other books in this series to enjoy this read but if you have read 'Flame and Ember' you will enjoy it that much more. I loved meeting Felicity and learning more about Finch. There were multiple moments in this tale that spoke to how people doubt themselves and how thoughtlessly others oppress and belittle. The hope and honesty of this tale was indeed Sunshine! We all struggle and we are all worthy of help and support and patience to get through those struggles. This is a touching story that I will enjoy reading again with characters I won't soon forget.

Ecco un romanzo che sappiamo svolgersi negli anni della Reggenza per l'ambientazione e per certe dinamiche sociali ma in realtà può essere di ogni epoca perché la parte più rilevante, che è quella della crescita personale, dell'eroismo silenzioso delle piccole cose e della ricerca e convinzione del proprio valore che sperimentano i personaggi, non conoscono barriere temporali.Lewis Finch è un gentiluomo considerato irrilevante dalla famiglia perché intimamente incapace di conformarsi alla sostanziale banalità dei diktat sociali della sua classe. Non conosce ambizioni particolari e così la famiglia lo emargina gradualmente costringendolo ad un'esistenza di ristrettezze economiche e di fondamentale depressione.Felicity Barrows è una recente ereditiera di aspetto piacevole ma non significativo. La famiglia nel suo caso c'è stata ma per breve tempo e non senza problemi. Tuttavia la morte dello zio la mette in possesso di una fortuna che lei è poco attrezzata a gestire e soprattutto la mette a contatto con una serie di cacciatori di dote che minano gradualmente la sua sicurezza e la portano quasi all'esaurimento.Due persone del tutto normali, dunque e che non sembrano proprio materiale da romanzo leggero. Messi in un contesto più corale, potrebbero quasi essere personaggi dickensiani. Se non che, a differenza di certe figure descritte da Dickens, i nostri eroi non hanno nulla di caricaturale e molti di noi si possono riconoscere in certe fragilità, in certe insicurezze troppo complesse per essere riconosciute con chiarezza, e in certe spirali di auto negazione che finiscono per acuire i problemi.L'incontro casuale fra queste due anime in un piccolo villaggio di campagna dà loro l'opportunità di riconoscere i loro problemi e di iniziare un percorso di guarigione.Detta così, mi rendo conto che sembri semplice ma in effetti il viaggio dei personaggi (anche qualcuno dei secondari) verso l'intima gioia è tutt'altro che facile e l'autrice non prende scorciatoie.La prosa è bella ed efficace e anche il ritmo della storia è buono e non conosce cali di tono.Sono molto contenta di essere incappata casualmente in questa scrittrice.Nel panorama dei romanzi di questo genere, è una voce di tutto rispetto.
