This story has drama, real life happenings, and true tender moments. It includes gossip, mother in laws, train robbers, and human emotions! I really enjoyed reading this book!

A few too many differences from the original for me

I'm nostalgic about stories with a western setting and I love everything Jane Austen, so I jumped at the chance to read this Pride and Prejudice/Old West mashup. Doesn't Darcy as a cowboy sound fun?!Given that it's a retelling, there were not a lot of surprises in the plot of the story. The characters, however, sometimes veered wildly away from Austen's originals—and not necessarily in a good way. For example, Georgiana Darcy is a very masculine character who wears breeches and is a marshal. Mr. Collins enters the story already married and is actually something of a good guy. I didn't understand the need to change Mr. Bingley's first name, especially considering the author isn't opposed to the name Charles, as you could see with side characters named Charlie and Chas.I found some aspects of the story were overdone, such as an elaborate backstory for the Bennet family which was used too much as a plot device. Other aspects, like George Wickham's story, were underdone to the point that if I hadn't been intimately familiar with Austen's original I wouldn't have known the significance of it.I would recommend this book for those who enjoy Pride and Prejudice and western stories. It's a light read, and if differences from the original don't bother you, you may like to see how the author crafted the story to fit the setting. The original is always better, but sometimes a different look can be fun too.

incredible rendition of Pride and Prejudice!

If you’ve ever wondered how Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen could look like in a different setting with cowboys aplenty and a small town vibe in the 19th century, read this story! So so good. I loved the nods to the PnP and deviations, loved the characters and how true to the setting the story was.And I’ve reread it already a few times.

Nice Characters With Challenging Relationships

I liked the Bennett family. The interaction of all the girls and the father daughter bond were very believable. The characters of the previous books held true. It's always nice seeing friends that don't need to be explained added to the plot. The Marshal and her husband were very supportiveIt was a challenging read for two reasons: lots of repetitive tragedy and stressful misunderstandings. Some negative influences were three meddling mothers and three incidents of malicious men luring innocent women. The misunderstandings were amplified by being between four people instead of the usual two. Lots of misassumptions and overlong delays for seeking clarification. (If you gave a bad proposal, then why do you assume the rejection was true?) I kept reading at night, trying to leave my new friends in a better place, dismayed as more nearly unbelievable coincidences piled on. Make sure you are in your happy place with tea on the beach or hot chocolate and fireplace in winter before you dig in.This novel shows the great creativity of the author, and she weaves two stories into one quite nicely. There is a great example of forgiveness and encouragement from Rob along the way!Thank you.
