Scarlett is trying to save her grandfather's farm, but the place is a huge mess. Hudson is a cowboy mechanic who offers to help her fix up the broken down cars on the ranch. Can Hudson fine tune Scarlett's heart as they work together? Or will things backfire and make everything worse at Last Chance Ranch?

Scarlett Adams has had enough. Enough of men breaking her heart. Enough of her boss saying she needs to do better. Enough of the traffic and hustle of the city. So when the opportunity to take over her grandfather's horse ranch in the hills of California comes along, she jumps at it. She'd rather spend her time with horses, dogs, and goats than honking cars, power suits, and men who don't call back.

And she's finally happy.

Hudson Flannigan knows three things: horses, cars, and that he's never going to make his father proud. Not only that, but he's disappointed his mother too. Well, his ex-wife did that when she found someone else to love, but it's somehow Hudson's fault.

When Scarlett needs help getting the rundown ranch back into shape, she hires Hudson to get all the vehicles into proper working order. The spark between them is instant and hot, but neither of them wants to endure another painful breakup.

Can Scarlett and Hudson find the faith and forgiveness they need to fix themselves as they restore Last Chance Ranch to its former glory? Or will this fine-tuning of their hearts backfire and leave them more broken than before?

A story with low angst, sweet second chance at romance

The Last Chance Ranch is an easy read, revolving around two divorcees overcoming their fears to give love a second chance.Scarlett has just inherited a vast ranch which is in a state of near disrepair. She's going to need to hire a whole lot of people to help her ranch get back into shape and become eligible for funding that's available to rescue farms. That's how she ends up hiring a whole lot of people, including one Hudson.Hudson is 40 plus and divorced, just like Scarlett. Both have seen an undeniable chemistry developing between them from the first instant. So, love is in the air, but Scarlett will need to overcome her insecurities first. To help, there's her best friend Adele who is also living on the ranch, and all sorts of animals. It's a pretty simple plot and the angst is also low. More characters have been included so that their storylines and romances can be explored for the rest of the series.I am giving this story 4 stars because it was well-written, with only a few and minor copyediting errors. I wished for a few things though. First, I wish Hudson's dog was named something different, not an anagram of Hudson's own name. It made it difficult for me to follow the scenes initially where both the dog and his human were present.Secondly, I wish Hudson's own conflict with his family was elaborated upon. The number of times he was shown brooding upon it, one thought it had to be pretty serious. But the lame way in which it got resolved made it look like either Hudson had blown it all out of proportion, or the author felt lazy working out his side of the story.Thirdly, the God and Christian angle was just there for the sake of it. I would have liked a deeper connect to be shown. Also, when Scarlett's mother appears to be casual about her father's declining health, there's a hint that there's a story behind it. But that's never addressed. Why introduce these side threads if they aren't necessary or won't be given closure?Anyway, it was a good read by itself, but I won't be reading any more in this series as I have gone through the blurbs of the remaining 5 and they all look formulaic and similar. If you have read one, you have read all. Also, this series is not on Kindle Unlimited, so I would have to purchase them for 500 each, definitely not worth it.

Another enjoyable light romance

I enjoyed this second chances romance that explored the lives of two people divorced and considering what life may have in store for them. The country lifestyle is always enjoyable to read about, too.
