They say to keep your friends close and your enemies closer . . .

Hostage Negotiation Team member Bart Gutierrez is shocked to find Lucy Aguayo, a girl he knew as a teenager, working for the deadly Castillo drug cartel. This revelation uncovers a secret in Bart's family so big it forces him to accept a dangerous offer: infiltrate the cartel to keep his family safe. Once inside the cartel's headquarters he discovers that a large-scale attack on America is imminent and the only way to prevent it is to bring Lucy in on his plans---and hope she doesn't betray him.

Lucy Aguayo has become a key player in the Castillo cartel, but not for money or power---she's on a mission of vengeance for her father's murder. Just when she gets a chance to bring down the cartel leader responsible, Bart Gutierrez appears, stirring up buried feelings and disrupting all her plans. But as the enemy closes in from all sides, Lucy must choose between being free from her past or finding justice for it. Can she give up everything she's ever worked for and reach for something more?

Julie Coulter Bellon's Pocket Full of Posies,

Environment, they say, makes the man. Have you ever wondered what your life would be life if you were raised under difference circumstances? Instead of a loving household in which you were treated with kindness, what if you lived under the heavy hand of a tyrannical father, a violent criminal, a man whom without a second thought would strike out and beat another, even kill? No doubt, your personality would be more in line with what you are raised with. Violence most often begets violence.(Spoiler alert!!!)In Julie Coulter Bellon's POCKET FULL OF POSIES, City of Hartford police officer Bart Gutiérrez learns his mother had stolen him away, as a young child, from his father, a South American drug boss. In an effort to keep Bart safe from that destructive world, she changed their names and received asylum in the United States. He grew up to be a good, honest, respected man, decorated by the police department where he's making his career, until a woman from his past shows up and reveals to him his true identity.Petite and beautiful Lucy Aguayo churns up wonderful memories of their carefree childhood years, yet she is now working for one of the most treacherous drug lords the U.S. is trying to capture and put out of business. Worse, she is dragging Bart into her dangerous world of drugs, and the probable destruction of the United States all because his father has been looking for him and feels the need to reconnect with the son he lost years before. Could he possibly expect his law enforcement son to take over a business built on everything evil?Julie Bellon writes a thrilling adventure of Bart and Lucy's lost childhood crush that reignites into love under the worst of circumstances. Other mainstream authors feel the need to delve into the bloody-lusty, gritty details of killing, Julie makes me a repeat reader by keeping most of that unnecessary gore "off screen" yet keeping the tension sufficiently ratcheted up that I couldn't put down my (e)book. This is a keeper!
