He’s lost his fortune. She’s risking her freedom. And Scotland isn’t big enough for the assumptions between them.

Cut off without a penny, Lord Ian Pinkerton thinks he’s struck gold when he wins a Scottish estate in a card game—right up until he sees the dilapidated ruin he’s inherited. With no money to fix it and no prospects on the horizon, Ian’s ready to bolt…until he crosses paths with his fiercely guarded, maddeningly beautiful neighbor.

Catriona Melton, Baroness of Crannach, has been hiding on her remote isle with her young son, and the last thing she needs is a charming English lord setting foot on her shores. She knows his type—or so she thinks. But the more she tries to avoid him, the more he refuses to fit neatly into the box she’s built for him.

When a dangerous enemy resurfaces and threatens everything Cat has fought to protect, Ian steps into the fray. Now she must choose whether to cling to her fears…or trust the one man she never meant to let into her heart.

Good enough, especially if it's free.

If you don't mind cultural and linguistic anachronisms, broad plotting, and fairly unconvincing - but comforting - relationship dynamics and developments, this will suit. I read it through, but not sure I will look for more by this author.

Reformed Indeed

Lord Ian and Lady Cat are both interesting characters, but even more interesting is 5 year old Gus and Ian's relationships with his twin brother Conrad and sister-in-law Jess. The Docherty's tender care for Ian is sweet also. Loved the ending.

Reforming the Gambler

Lord Ian Pinkerton thought that all of his problems were over. Who cares that his brother, the one who inherited the family title, estates, and fortune, has cut him off? What does he need with an annoying, strict, do-gooder brother telling him to cut down on the gambling, on the drink, anyway? He'll show him! But, then Ian arrives at the estate that he won in a game of cards to find that it doesn't so much need 'minor repairs' as it needs rebuilding. Which takes money. Money that Ian doesn't have (he is, in fact badly in debt). And, as he hits rock bottom, Ian begins to see his life, and mistakes, in a different light.Catriona is at first horrified when she finds that Ian is her new neighbor. She's a widow with a young son and dealt with quite enough gambling and drinking with her late husband, thank you very much. Sure, Ian isn't hard on the eyes, but she's not looking for a repeat. But, Ian is really good with her son, and as time goes by, Catriona begins to see another side of Ian, and changes in him. This is a clean read, which I appreciate. This book contains characters that were first introduced in another story the author wrote as part of another series, but it is not necessary to have read that book before this one (I didn't). Ian isn't particularly admirable to start with, but he's not really evil. He has issues, but he's really more childish than anything, so it isn't hard to root for him to grow up and become the man he eventually does.I received an ARC from the author. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so and the opinions stated are my own.

Ⅱ 1 is perhaps better than the 1st

I have enjoyed these 2 books in the series. The author has written Stories that tell of love I'm growing up in my opinion. The characters are great Gus the little the little boy is someone That is a combination of all my grandchildren. You can relate to Some of the characters in the story even though it was a regency book. I can't wait to read more in this group of people.
