Dottie loves Phillip, and he loves her. It ought to be that simple.

When speaking of “love,” Phillip Russell thought it was merely a matter of finding the right woman and proposing, but it is far more complicated when that particular young lady is his employer’s daughter. A man ought to offer his future bride more than grand dreams and empty hands. She deserves so much better.

Dottie Ashbrook knows what she wants. Her heart is not in doubt, but Phillip—fool that he is—seems determined to keep her at arm’s length. He might be a poor tutor, but why can’t he see how much she loves him? What can she do to convince him they were meant to be together?

But when a stranger unearths a secret from her past, Dottie discovers fate may have a different plan for her…

A very wonderful story

A wonderful read. The storyline is original and moving. The characters are warm, likeable and realistic. The story contains sadness and heartbreak as well as joy and triumph. The writing is well done, with no typos that I could see. The dialogue is appropriate, with no glaring slang expressions or Americanisms. I’m very much enjoying this series. Well done.Jarring

A Sweet Twist

A lovely and quick read. My first Nichols novel was The Shameless Flirt. I met and fell in love with Dottie's parents. I soon met Phillip and I was delighted to read their joined story here. The lessons they learned from parents by choice and not by blood...beautiful. Dottie is such a gentle soul with a will of iron, and Phillip has a strength of character instilled by his stepfather. Read this one and I hope you get hooked on the Ashbrooks; they are a fantastic family!

Excellent

Interesting storyline and not one I have encountered before. Love conquers all as the saying goes. On to the next one.

One star read

I've read several of Nichols' sweet romances, and this one is like an afterthought. Captain Graham and Tabby, the parents of Phillip, are some of my favorite characters, but the story of Phillip's love interest is undeveloped, boring, and thankfully brief.

not much of a story

I have read several of this authors books and enjoy the clean and heartwarming stories she creates. This one pales in comparison. It isn't bad ... But it isn't very good either.
