A marriage they didn’t choose. A child conceived in a lie. Can they overcome their broken dreams and find happiness in a life forced upon them?

At her age, Ruby Jeffries knows better than to dream of love, but then, Lucas Ashbrook sweeps into her life with whispered declarations of love and fervent kisses. He’s everything she’s hoped for, and Ruby would risk far more than the scandal of an elopement to be with him. But when she discovers Lucas faked the wedding to win a bet, Ruby is left with more than a broken heart.

Conrad Ashbrook spends his life mending that which his elder brother breaks, and when Lucas abandons the young lady bearing his child, Conrad has no choice but to shoulder that responsibility as well. Marrying a lady he doesn’t love and raising his brother’s child wasn’t what Conrad wanted for his future.

Can a marriage starting with such pain ever bring them happiness?

went on a bit but good read otherwise

There was a bit of rambling but the story was interesting and i needed to know what happened so I was able to over look the long winded parts.

The Honourable Choice

A good title and what a family saga to satisfy our taste of the grotesque parents. I thought the character's where great and the storyline fitted perfectly. It made me feel that family life just could survive in this case successfully. A enjoyable read no adverse comments.

Charming story

Strong female character that don’t give up and follow their own fellings

Most original

Set in the context of middle class England, this novel is no a light, frothy confection, but a poignant, examination of family dynamics, the way they shape character and how hard they are to change. It does this through the story of Ruby, Laurence and Conrad. Sometimes it is painfully raw, yet it is increasingly marked by moments of quiet joy and healing. It examines the nature of repentance and forgiveness and how they intersect with natural justice. I found it a slow start, but then became engrossed in the story. It really mattered to me what happened to these characters. They will not fade into the blur of debutantes and alpha males in so many stories.

Wonderfully heartwarming

I was very moved by this book. There was so much heartache, pain and sorrow yet through it all, the main female character bears it and grows stronger, strengthened by the love of her new husband. I loved the characters… they are very realistic and relatable. The writing is well done, with barely one or two typos, and the vocabulary is mostly acceptable. There were some expressions which were not appropriate for this time period. A very good read.
