After her father betrayed her trust by gambling away their Kentucky horse breeding business, Cadi Gruffyn salvaged the pregnant prize mare gifted for her 21st birthday. The loss of the horse farm displaces her aunt and uncle, so Cadi joins them on a wagon train to northern California where her brother established a ranch in the Diablo Valley. When her uncle dies, several men approach Cadi, insisting she needs a husband to help her finish out the trip. She refuses, afraid they only want to claim her valuable mare.

Carpenter Trynt Pembroke just wants a fresh start. A week before his wedding, he was betrayed by his fiancée who ran off with his brother. He’s looking to get as far away as he can and start a new business. As much as he doesn’t want the complication of a woman in his life, he keeps coming to the rescue of strong and determined Cadi, a woman who shares his cultural heritage. Can he convince her they are stronger together than on their own?

Cadi. Prairie Roses book 11

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the highs and lows of the brave pioneers who travelled the Oregon Trail. Well written

Absolutely love it!

I loved this book. It's nice having a strong female character who proves each and everyday how women can do what men can do when they need to, even in the harsh conditions of traveling in the wild west. I enjoyed the slow build into romance from friendship. Absolutely wonderful read that I couldn't put down.

Overcoming

The author has penned a wonderful story full of lots of human emotions as two individuals overcome the obstacles that they have encountered in their young lives and endure the rigorous wagon train trip to California. This is Cadi Gruffyn and Trynt Pentroke's story. Cadi's father lost their horse ranch due to his gambling and ends up in prison. Trynt was betrayed one week before his wedding when his fiancee ran off with his brother. Cadi joins her aunt and uncle on the trip west where she meets Trynt who wants to get away from his bad memories. As the couple watch each other day to day and become better acquainted will love and a HEA be in their future. You will also meet a friendly dog and a special horse. Be sure to read this wonderful story to find out. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Cadi - takes control of her life!

Cadi is a precious, young lady who takes a chance on her future following loss due to her father’s gambling addiction. Along the way she meets Trynt, who has experienced his own family betrayal. I love that these two took their time on the trail to California to get to know each other. Each ‘watched’ the other, without really meaning to, to find out what the other was like as a person, how they treated other people, did they adapt well, whether or not they offered help, accepted help and took advice. The same kind of things ‘dating’ couples look for today, except they were crossing the country in wagons.

I love that Cadi made purchases that would help herself and others on the trail. Trynt used his gift as a carpenter to help others. These two seemed to just fit together. Neither was looking for love, but time and again, they sought each other out when various situations would arise.

Ms. Carroll-Bradd takes us on a realistic journey along with the H/h/and the secondary characters through the joys and sadness that would accompany the difficult journey west. Ms. C-B writes her characters in a way that you want to cheer for them, mourn with them and hope for their success. Thank you, Net Galley for sharing this book in exchange for an honest review.
