When smart, practical Emily finds herself in the crosshairs of an Internet prankster, her orderly world goes topsy-turvy. Instead of getting mad at the handsome stranger behind the joke, she finds herself drawn to him--even with his bad puns and worse man bun.

But Jack Dobson, though hilarious and thoughtful, has a lot of secrets. Why did he stop cutting his hair? Why is he living in a remote mountain cabin? And why is Emily's internet sleuthing turning up more and more evidence that he walked out on a brilliant career with no explanation?

Despite her growing feelings for her new and unexpected long-distance friend, his biggest secret of all might be the one that breaks the spell they've been weaving around each other. But when she finally finds the mysterious Jack and their chemistry ignites, will his ability to make her laugh harder and feel deeper than any guy before him be enough to help them face the truth?

A Romcom that will make you laugh, ache, and love!

WOW! This book will hit you in the feels! I laughed and very nearly cried and really wanted to give Jack a hug.

The dialogue is so witty and fun and you can’t help but fall in love with these characters!!

I loved watching their long-distance friendship and relationship grow through the DMs, FaceTime calls, and virtual dates. With two characters that are so funny and clever, I just ate up every interaction they had.

Melanie Jacobson has mastered the romcom that will make you laugh, ache, love, and gain a sense of empathy for what others go through.

I really loved this book and have loved all the books I’ve read by the author!

This is smart, unique, original, sweet story and quickly became one of my favorites

Emily is a smart witty professional woman with a plan. Renee, her roommate and friend have a great honest relationship and are not afraid to call each other out. They are not always right but seem to help guide each other to self realization about their hang ups. Renee encourages Emily to contact her brother’s friend Jack who lives 10 hours away. The virtual relationship that results is quite funny, full of hilarious dialogue. This leads the women to develop insights into their hangups. Obviously, despite Jack’s charm, wit and handsome package, he is holding back and walls around much of his past. The development of this relationship is very well written and makes a story that is hard to put down. I would highly recommend. It is a great story that is written very smartly. Melanie Jacobson after only a couple books has become one of my favorite authors.

Poignant. Beautiful. Painful.

Jack and Emily were a great couple but it was a hard fought romance. Tough subject matter with Jack's painful history as a doctor before Emily met him.

I loved their internet connection and budding friendship/romance. Their inside jokes and banter was such a bright spot in the book. And it needed a bright spot. I wanted them together even though it took a looooong time to work out everything that kept them apart. Jack was stuck in a run of despair and Emily was trying to grow into the woman she wanted to be in life.

It felt like it took a little too long to come together though. And I would've enjoyed a POV from Jack's perspective but I get why it was told from Emily's side. The story was really epic but you should buckle up for a rough ride getting there.

Almost fabulous

Oh Melanie! The first half of this book was one of the best I have ever read and then suddenly kids with cancer!!! I love everything Melanie writes, hence my reading this book. And such a clever beginning, wonderful characters, flirtation, etc and then boom, darkness. It was like two different people wrote this book or she just ran out of steam. I hate to criticize and I do so only to wish in my heart that somehow this book could be redone with a slightly lighter touch. I can handle tragedy, pain, and wounds for the love interest, it just was too painful. For those reading this review, I would say, read the book, and make up your own mind. There is an HEA and maybe for some people, the tougher parts will be more profound and sweet. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 3.

Lovely romantic comedy!

I love romantic comedy. I like a book that can make me laugh. I found that in this book. In addition to a range of other emotions. It kept me interested from cover to cover. I have enjoyed all of Melanie’s novels and this one didn’t disappoint. Emily starts out with Paul. Her roommate Raneé doesn’t like Paul and to show Emily that she knows what kind of man Emily really should be with she gets her brother’s friend Jack to photoshop a photo of her with a hot man with long hair which they put on her Facebook. By the time a second photo shows up on her page Emily has had enough. Although she find it sort of funny her boyfriend Paul doesn’t. She communicated with Jack to ask him to knock it off. A round about friendship starts. But now Emily realizes she and Paul have no spark. She has to figure out what her heart is trying to tell her. This is a super sweet, emotional, fun book with lovable characters.
