Jessie Madsen has her hands full helping her parents run their small farm and boarding house while every fortune-seeker in the country seems to be flocking to her small town in search of gold. It’s bad enough that claim jumpers won’t quit trespassing on her property, but geologist James Kelsey, mildly intriguing and surprisingly handsome for an Easterner, seems more interested in her than the mining business. Jessie is certain she doesn’t have the time or the need for a man, and after getting her heart broken, she has resolved never to fall for an outsider again. Add stolen cash, a fast-talking con man, and a pair of bandits, and Jessie is indeed up to her eyeballs in trouble. Will she soften her rock-hard exterior and let the geologist discover the hidden treasure in her heart?

Editorial Reviews

“In Jessie and James, Beckstrand once again proves what a talented author she is – and that she was made for writing westerns as well as her usual Amish fiction. Seamlessly weaving wit and emotion alongside a bit of adventure and meaningful insight, the author also introduces multi-dimensional characters that I hope we see again! You’ll laugh and swoon, for sure, and you may even get a bit tearful as you devour Jessie and James from start to finish.” Carrie Schmidt, Reading Is My Superpower Blog

"Such a fun story to pick up! I love that Jessie is not your average heroine, since she is rough around the edges and well suited to life in the wild west. James is her opposite, with his likeable personality and not seeming to quite fit into his new situation. I love that this story is not conventional and that the characters throw the reader for a loop. This is an enjoyable historical read to pick up!" Inklings and Notions Blog

"Jessie And James by Jennifer Beckstrand is the most charming Christian historical romance that warms the heart and soothes the soul. Jennifer Beckstrand always writes such delightful novels that I sink into from the start. Jessie And James is wonderfully amusing." Christian Bookshelf Blog

"I fell in love with these characters very early in the story. It is so realistic, I felt as though I was there witnessing everything. I can’t wait for the second book in this series. Oh and I also love the way Jessie’s parents, especially her mom, was so loving and forgiving. This is truly a story of love, forgiveness and second chances." Splashes of Joy Blog

"I’m claiming Jessie and James as the funniest book I’ve read this year. Jessie’s spunk and James’s unwavering loyalty pulled me into the depths of the story. I couldn’t wait to see who Jessie would threaten to shoot next." Through the Fire Blog

Hilarious and full of adventure!

I finally was able to read this fun book by Jen Spencer! I also enjoyed the dialogue between Jessie and James and how they eventually fell in love. I also liked how Jessie was able to transform Denny and Ansel, even though it was challenging.

“My mama taught me good..."

“My mama taught me good, but I don’t always measure up like I should...”

"She was trying to be nice and treat [him] as Jesus would have treated him. He was certainly making it very hard."

“I hope with all my heart you can forgive me for everything I’ve ever done to offend you."

Not as engaging nor as enjoyable a read as the previous books in the series.

Such a fun filled book to read.

One has to be read for the twists and turns this book takes. It is great fast paced reading that makes the book difficult to put down. I’m ready to read another great book by Jan Spencer!

Great book!

I REALLY enjoyed this book! I usually read before I go to sleep and I didn't get much sleep while reading this as I couldn't put it down! Great characters and story line! With the excellent character development and descriptive writing you really get to know the characters. I wish Jennifer would continue this series.
