The last thing Dannie needs is a Victorian gentleman on her ranch, playing cowboy while she’s trying to save her family’s livelihood. Will high stakes and high emotions lead to heartbreak?

Evan Rounsevell, second son to the Marquess of Rothwell, is running as far from his family and responsibilities as he can. His fascination with cowboys takes him from English shores to the Arizona desert, but the days of showdowns are over, and Tombstone, Arizona, is a respectable town. With no funds left, and no desire to call on his affluent family for rescue, Evan seeks a position as a cowboy at a ranch on its last leg.

Daniella Bolton’s fiancé left when the drought of 1893 crippled the KB ranch, but that’s just fine by her. She doesn’t need a man to help her save her family’s land. Especially not an Englishman who looks down on her style of living, like Evan does. She loves her life on the ranch, and no outsider could ever understand what it means to be loyal to the land and her family’s way of life.

Being a cowboy is harder than Evan thought, but as he works to earn his place on the ranch, his heart opens up to the beauty of the desert… as well as that of Dannie Bolton. Watching Evan fight for the ranch she loves makes Dannie realize that not all men are afraid of hard work and troubled times, and loving Evan might be just the salve her wounded heart needs. But when Evan’s family summons him home right when Dannie needs him most, the feelings of betrayal from her former fiancé’s flight return tenfold.

Does Evan dare risk his tenuous relationship with Dannie to fulfil his family responsibilities? Or will leaving Arizona be the worst mistake of his life?

A story worth a mountain of silver dollars

Evan Rounsevell is a second son of a marquess and destined to manage his brother’s estate for the remainder of his days. But Evan’s fascination with the American West sprouts ideas of adventure, and he’s not ready to give up on his dream of experiencing the desert firsthand.Dannie Bolton is a strong willed cowgirl with no time or patience for the English greenhorn looking for a short stent of adventure. She sees right through his charm and accent, and she’s determined to dislike him, no matter how hardworking he is.Living on a ranch in the middle of the desert makes avoiding each other difficult, and the more time Dannie spends with the Englishmen, the more her heart falls. With his growing love for both ranch life and his boss’s daughter, Evan begins to resent his duty to his family and need to return to England. Everything he wants is on a ranch in the Arizona territory, but does his heart’s desires outweigh the duty to his noble birth and family back home?Oh. My. Goodness. Being my first western, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. Well hey howdy hey, guess what? I LOVED it. The characters are absolutely fantastic and I connected with them right from the very start. Sally really draws you into the ranch life and I felt like I was right there with the characters. Pretty sure I kept wiping invisible dust from my face along with them. Evan was so charming and I really enjoyed his sense adventure and desire to prove he could build his own life without relying on his noble background. And Dannie is the vision of courage and strength we all want to be. So SO SO good. Highly recommend this one!!!!! Looking forward to binging the rest of the series.

clever and unexpected

Well done in slipping back and forth from Arizona drawl to proper English. How would it ever work out? Where there’s a love, there’s a way!

A Victorian American Historical Romance

I have enjoyed this author's books set in the Regency in England and as I also enjoy American Historical Romances looked forward to reading this one set in the Victorian American West.I wasn't disappointed, for me the characters struck a chord. Evan with his longing for adventure tempered with his strong sense of duty, Dannie with her love for her father's ranch but protecting herself romantically after having her heart broken when her fiancé abandoned her. They are attracted to each other, however true love never runs smoothly. The story definitely kept me hooked and I read it virtually in one sitting. There is a second book in the series planned and I'm really looking forward to that one as well.I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however as she is on my list of must - read authors I had already pre-ordered it.

Loved This Story!

What a great start to a new series! Having lived in Arizona years ago, I loved the description of the land and climate and hardships these ranchers faced, as well as coming across a few familiar town and fort names.I thoroughly enjoyed this slow burn romance. This was definitely an enemies to more trope, with Dannie setting her heart and mind against Evan right from the very beginning. Oh, but it was great to see her begin to realize that Evan fit in and embraced the ranching lifestyle and that he was not at all like the man who had hurt her a few years earlier. The way these two were continually drawn to each other and Evan’s patience with Dannie was sweet. The admiration and respect that Dannie began to feel toward Evan bloomed into more, yet it seemed there might not be a way for Evan to truly separate himself from his familial duties back in England. The narrator did a wonderful job with the voices and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this romantic story. I loved the epilogue! What a sweet ending to the novel. I look forward to reading and listening to more books in this series.
