Welcome to the ancient land of Terra, where curses run rampant throughout all the kingdoms and where the royalty desperately attempt to break their curses and claim their own happily ever afters.

Princess Briar of Thorn has a death curse, but she’s not worried about it. She’d rather spend her time tending to her rose vines in the hot desert gardens of her kingdom, snooping about the castle, and spending as much time as she can with her ill mother. When her father announces they are traveling to meet the two cold Haleston princes, she is sure she wants nothing to do with the traitor prince look-alike. That is until the golden-haired prince and his reclusive ways find her more curious than ever. She can’t simply leave him alone even when he is less than receptive to her attentions. As she searches for a way to help her mother, she is drawn in more and more by Prince Gideon of Haleston and wants to see him smile—even if only once.

Prince Gideon of Haleston seems to have been cursed twice. Not only does he look like the spitting image of the traitor King Falcon himself, may he rot in the mountain,. His true curse will kill whomever he falls in love with. Keeping from maidens is the only way he can protect them. Spending his days reading in the library fills him with contentment, that is until a princess with opinions, confidence, and unwavering curiosity catches his attention. Gideon knows he must keep his distance from the captivating yet irritating princess of Thorn, even if it goes against his desires. No matter how hard he tries, nothing stops his feelings that keep growing for Briar. With each passing day, he knows he will kill her if he can not control his heart. Can he break his curse? Or is it as unbreakable as he’d always been told—sealing Briars fate forever?

Will one prick from the spindle of a spinning wheel save them both? Or will it keep them apart forever?

An unique and beautiful Sleeping Beauty retelling!

A really special, magical take on The Sleeping Beauty fairy tale with a lot of emotions and twists.Although Gideon is a little bit grumpy, he is definitely perfect book boyfriend material. He's a little awkward but cute, he's bookish, he's caring and he's handsome. Briar is absolutely the sunshine to Gideon's grump. She's bubbly, confident, honest and very curious. She always tries to be positive and happy. They are opposites, but they are drawn to each other. And I adored all their interactions! There are also really great supporting characters, some familiar and some new. Each of them brings something valuable to the story. The world building is outstanding, and the character growth is beautiful. I love the descriptive writing style and the way the author takes you on a journey of places, emotions and magic. Kayla's stories always have important and beautiful lessons and messages. I have so many quotes I like from this book!!I loved the dual POV and the before Slumber and after Slumber part.I loved the first part, where they got to know each other and almost begrudgingly fell in love. Then there are multiple twists and turns, and they need to overcome so many things. But it shows the beauty and strength of love.Love can endure so much, even huge obstacles and a lot of time.

Great series

I loved how Gideon wanted the best for Briar and was willing to risk his own life to save her and break her curse. The magical roses were really cool too.

Sweet but dull

I have read the previous books in the series and enjoyed them due to her spirited heroines, romantic heroes, and the lovely twists she puts on the classic tales. I was so looking forward to this book because I liked Princr Gideon's character, especially in The Fairest One. He was so deserving of his true love.Briar was a lovable, real person and I liked that she knew who she was and made no apologies for it.But the story was DULL. I logged through it waiting g for some action or suspense. There was none. The build up to their love took forever and the conclusion to Gideon's curse was too easy. I wanted a heroic quest. Did not deliver. The tension she managed was forced and dragged on. We knew the ending would come, it was predictable and at a point I just wanted it to be over.I hope her next book is more like her previous books.

Very sweet

This is a lovely story. Ironically, the pacing of this three-hundred-year-long book was better than the last book! It was a bit sappy, but sweet. Gideon is so wonderfully patient and LOYAL.
