About the Author

I'm a USA Today Bestselling author of fantasy, contemporary romance, and romantic comedies. Fantasy was my first and forever love with the bestselling "Golden Curse". I love taking old stories and turning them around until they're almost unrecognizable except to the most avid fans. I write books to challenge myself, tackling hard topics or places so different from my own. Studying ancient cultures, architecture, and folklore is one of the best parts of being an author.I've written more than seventy stories full of magic, love, and friendship, and at thirty-three, have no plans to ever stop.

Interesting but fades

I was interested in the story until perhaps 1/2 way through the story...then it started to just lag, slow down and fade away...to each their own tastes

Lovely story

A wonderful tale about a kingdom in turmoil. Magic was stolen 20 years ago and the lands have suffered since. Year on year more crops have failed and food is being rationed throughout. Can our MMC Trystan, his 2nd Davi, and his sister Rissa save the kingdom from the enemy and get magic back. This is a nice easy read, the pacing and world building are great as are the character developments. The balance between the two authors, Lynn and Bryan is extremely well done. I actually forgot there were 2 authors for this book because everything blends so well.I particularly like how Rissa has been written. Not only is she a strong minded woman who knows exactly what she wants and how to get it, but she's also tested by the male dominance we (women) experience in life. Her father and brother (the king and the prince) take away her choices on most things and side with each other, rarely siding with her. Not only is this true to the time of the story, but it still happens today and I liked that the authors included that and made a point about Rissas feelings and emotions when it happens.I also thoroughly enjoy that it's Davi, not a female character, being used for his looks. It's a refreshing change to the usual and very funny! A particular favour is his line "why is it hard being the beautiful one?" After having to sit next to a strange woman to secure a wagon ride for the group. The bromance between Trystan and Davi is so sweet, it's really lovely reading about strong powerful men who are also dependent on their emotional connection to their friends. The authors really are good at characterisation and they should be so proud of themselves.

Great epic fantasy

3.5/5 stars rounded upGreat epic fantasy story. Good world building and enjoyable characters. Magic and an adventure that is fun to follow. The story is somewhat predictable as enough is given away/hinted at that you get a good feel as to where the story is going. I really do love the adventure they are going on, and would recommend this story.

Hooked and devoured this book in a couple of days

I will go a bit into detail of the story but will leave a clear Spoiler alert so you may stop reading at the right time :)I have devoured this book within a couple of days, and I'm usually not the most avid reader. I couldn't get myself to put it away as the world building was so captivating.Following the characters of Rissa, Trystan, Devi and Alixa along on their quest and with their own struggles to deal with, it's a lovely story. The relationship with King Marcus is beautifully written, for once a father figure that is truly a supportive person and understanding in the needs of the realm vs the needs of his children. It's a lovely start of a quest to restore magic to a land that has suffered from the loss of it and we learn more and more why everything has happened the way it did. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who loves a young adult story about brotherhood, found family and first love, combined with a quest to save the realm and moments that will leave you feeling somber.SPOILERS AHEAD BE WARNED :)Reading Davi and Rissa discovering the love that was always there between them just to have it ripped away by Davi's sacrifice was truly heartbreaking. The same for Lorelai's role in all of this. It's brilliantly placed as it makes you wonder if her first prophecy was real, or if it was just a ruse after all to get the king to accept Davi into his ranks. It also begs the question if the big prophecy will become true or just be another lie spun to occupy Trystans mind. I was so saddened when King Marcus had met his fate. Such a loss of an amazingly written father figure. It's an absolute delight seeing so many strong female main and side characters shine, be it with Rissa and Alixa, or with Avery and even Lorelai in her opposing position. Rissa in particular won my heart by fighting for herself, staying her ground and being a character that brings true value to both fights and diplomatic grounds. At the same time, the male characters not only show the typical male stereotypes either. They have emotion and show them. While Trystan is more reserved due to his future status, Davi is a perfect mirror to lighten and be alongside him to give both characters more depth.

Good first Book to captivate me into investing in the series

The world that was built in this series really is very well thought through. I find that sometimes when starting a series, it feels like book 1 is almost like the first book of one of the authors, so there are some aspects of the story that don't quite jump off the page from the start. However, as I made my way through the book, I was captivated by the characters and the dangers they face. It does have a cliff hanger ending, so it was lucky that the series was already complete and I could move on to Book 2 quickly!
