I rally enjoyed the characters in this book, good bedtime reading

Einfühlsame Geschichte über Verlustbewältigung

Aus Seattle kommend will Reed einen vierwöchigen Urlaub auf Belle Island verbringen, er, der seit einem schweren Verlust nur gearbeitet hat und vergessen hat, was das Wort Urlaub überhaupt ist. Auf der Insel vor der Küste Floridas angekommen, dauert es nicht lange, bis er der hübschen Julie begegnet. Beide beginnen zarte Gefühle zu entwickeln, doch obwohl sie wie füreinander gemacht zu sein scheinen, halten die Dämonen aus der Vergangenheit sie zurück, sich dem jeweils anderen ganz hinzugeben, zu vertrauen, an Liebe zu glauben. Die Autorin vermittelt auf glaubhafte Weise, wie schwer es sein kann, mit dem Verlust eines geliebten Menschen zurechtzukommen, egal, wie lange dieser Vorfall bereits her ist. Ebenso gelingt es ihr auf eindrucksvolle Weise, das zarte Band zu knüpfen, welches die Protagonisten letztendlich doch vor die Wahl stellt, sich den Dämonen zu stellen und die Möglichkeit für wahres Glück in die Hand zu nehmen, oder weiterhin mit den unliebsamen Schatten der Vergangenheit zu leben.Anfangs hatte ich noch ein wenig Schwierigkeiten, mich an die gemächliche Entwicklung der Geschichte zu gewöhnen, der Erzählstil ist deutlich langsamer als man es mittlerweile gewöhnt ist. Doch in Anbetracht der Beziehung, die sich auch in der Realität langsam aufbauen würde, ist die Erzählweise dann doch passend.Etwas schade fand ich den Augenblick der inneren Wende für die männliche Hauptfigur, das ging dann doch ein wenig zu schnell, zu glatt. Sonst aber eine gelungene Geschichte.

Like taking a vacation without leaving home

This was a very enjoyable story, with realistic, likeable characters, set in a quaint, sea side setting. Romance and a mystery solved. No strong language.

Un uomo con un bagaglio personale triste e pesante arriva sull'isola e trova finalmente la pace. Il racconto è ben fatto, si legge volentieri e i colpi di scena non mancano. Una lettura interessante
