Had so much fun reading it

Lexi Anderson runs a show for decorating homes and is called "the younger version of Martha Stewart". She knows everything about Christmas and decorating. It's the job that she loves and knows best. The Anderson family just moves in the Christmas Street. After the divorce, Lexi and her kids finally settled in a new cozy house, with the entire series of Jared Strong crime books reading in bed. It became a family tradition, they all love Jared Strong Series.

Everything was just fine, until one crazy neighbor decapitated their snowman.

In the meantime, the author of Jared Strong Series, Kyle Miller, has a writer's block. His dateline ends soon, and he has no idea how to finish his book. From the window of his home office, he sees the new neighbor's snowman and an idea pops up in his mind. Can the weapon be hidden in a snowman? Well, he has to check out. So, he goes to the snowman and tries various methods to hide a weapon, including decapitating the poor snowman. But, the owner caught him in action. Lexi is not thrilled by the idea of someone destroying her kids' decorations, including the snowman. And the neighbors ` fight begins.

Next day Lexi receives a package by mistake addressed to Kyle Miller. The address is the house next door. Is that crazy neighbor who destroyed her snowman actually the writer that she and her kids adore?

I totally fell in love with these two characters. A crime writer who hates Christmas, and a show host that loves Christmas. What a couple! I enjoyed their comic conversations and I laughed so hard on so many occasions. But, the story is not just funny. The characters were are also very emotional. Lexi lost her parents in a car accident and rushed in a marriage to recreate a family. Kyle lost his mother on Christmas Eve, and ever since he doesn't celebrate Christmas. Can it be that these two people can be a perfect match?

So, if you're a sucker for a bit of a Christmas magic, then this is a book for you. Check out how under the Scrooge mask there is a warm heart that is just lonely, and how love can enter in your life when you least expect it.

I can't believe that this book waited so long in my kindle. I had so much fun reading it. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of Heather Horrock's romantic comedy novellas.

Quick Bit of Holiday Sugar!

When a holiday stager and her two children who love Christmas move in next door to a grinchy writer with writer's block, the holidays are bound to have some shenanigans afoot. This short holiday romcom looked like just the thing.

Lexi Anderston lost her parents and then thought she'd found family with a man who walked away from her and their two children, but the losses made her stronger and want to prove that she can depend on herself only to raise her kids. She had some hard years of getting by, but now she is a local TV celebrity who is the new Martha Stewart and her favorite season is upon them. It came as a shock to learn a guy she had a bad run-in with in the neighborhood turns out to be her kids' favorite author. She sets her mind to showing Kyle what Christmas magic can do for him and his forlorn extended family, but she has no plans for changes in her own status quo.

Kyle Miller may be the bestselling author of a line of children's mysteries, but his latest manuscript is giving him fits. Why did he say he'd make the earlier deadline? And, right when he needs to focus most, his brother reminds him that he hasn't taken his turn hosting the brooding Miller family hoidays or come around the family in a long time. Kyle blows his brother off, but then encounters his feisty neighbor who insists on pushing him into the Christmas spirit. Lexi might be big on the holidays, but Kyle is determined that she feel the magic of family and not be allowed to hide from love.

Bah, Humbug! Is cute and quick. It's a novella so the characters and romance are moderately developed to get it all in. The light and fun mood while still touching on deeper issues for both Lexi and Kyle was just what I was in the mood for. It is far-fetched, but works for a holiday romcom.

So, if one is in the mood for a sugary quick bite, I can recommend this one.

An adorable Holiday romance short story

Lexi Anderson is new in the neighborhood with her two children. She is the new "Martha Stewart" type with her own show. She is divorced and is quite happy with her life just the way it is. Lexi's two children Trista and Stephen are huge fans of the Jared Strong adventure books, which unknown to them, are written by their neighbor, Kyle Miller. Kyle is some what of a recluse and is involved in his next book. He has no love for the Christmas holiday. After eyeing his neighbors snowman, he gets the idea of having a weapon stashed in and goes out to disect their snowman which is to be used for her next show. Lexi is not all happy and the neighborly acquaintance starts off badly. From there to the beginning of a friendship they find that family, forgiveness and love can evolve with the mostly unlikely people.
I loved this story very much. I felt very connected with the characters. It was funny, heartwarming and amusing. I thought it was a little unrealistic to have this relationship evolve within a couple of weeks, but hey; that's romance novels. This short story made me laugh, cry and believe in miracles.A great holiday romance story.

Cute Christmas Story - Bit Rushed

I was in the mood for something Christmassy and short in between book highs and I came out with Bah, Humbug! by Heather Horrocks. This is a very short book at less than 100 pages so it's a quick read. The story is pack full of laughs as well as aww moments as any romance should be.

The story is about a woman meeting a guy that she thinks is rude at first and doesn't like him but there's just something about him. That's always the way! They live next door to each other as she and her two kids just moved in. They end up getting close and of course fall head over heels for each other but there is still a bit of struggle for the two of them in this tiny little story. I loved it and the descriptions of everything was perfect, I had no problem seeing everything in my mind.

The only thing I didn't really care for was the ending and it kind of made me roll my eyes a bit. If you don't want to be spoiled then you might want to just go on to another post here or somewhere else because I'm going to rant about that ending.

The ending, hmm, they have only known each other a week and he proposes marriage. Okay. I get it, when you know you're in love, you're in love but really? A week and already asking to be married and everyone just goes right along with it? No one in his family even bats an eye that hey maybe that's a bit fast? I couldn't believe that was thrown in there. I can see started a relationship but, marriage?! Come on.

However, I really did enjoy the book and what do you expect when you're reading a short story of chick lit right? Light, fluffy, and happy endings all around.

Cute Story

Recently I believed I would be going with my mother to our state's capital for an appointment with her arthritis doctor (she doesn't like going alone, you see, and my father at first wasn't sure he was going to be able to go this time). Given that it sometimes can take a long time, I decided to take my Kindle and find a free Kindle book to read while waiting. Somehow, I found this and decided this would be it.

I did end up not having to go but after a few days, I finished reading Bah, Humbug!

Bah, Humbug! deals with the main characters of Kyler Miller, a popular mystery writer, and Lexi Anderson, a local TV celebrity who is considered to be the next Martha Stewart (minus a prison sentence, as is mentioned) living in Salt Lake City. Lexi and her two children are new in town after Lexi and her former husband divorce once he realizes he no longer wants to be married. Lexi and her kids happen to move next door to Kyle who just happens to be the author of the kids' favorite mystery series that they love having Lexi read to them before going to bed.

Much like his family, Kyle doesn't particularly enjoy Christmas. Unlike his neighbhorhood, he refuses to so much as even decorate. Later in the novella, it's revealed he and his family had a horrible event to happen twenty-one years before on Christmas Eve and explains why he avoids Christmas.

The plot itself deals with Kyle and Lexi encountering each other when Kyle, having writer's block, sees a snowman Lexi and her kids made and has a sudden burst of inspiration. Seeing if it would work, he destroys the snowman's head which in turns causes Lexi to get angry at him. The rest of the novel deals with the two getting past it and both frighteningly realizing they're becoming closer and closer as each helps the other.

I'll agree with another reviewer that I did think Lexi's reaction over the snowman got to be a little....extreme. It was an understandable initial reaction but then she took it overboard to the point of lying to her kids and causing them to miss (or so she thought) the chance to meet Kyle at a book signing. Especially considering he tried explaining what he was doing and that it was such an easily fixable thing.

Another odd thing about the story I just realized as I write this is the kids themselves. It's mentioned that Lexi was married but she and her husband divorced and he disappeared never to be seen again. I found it a little odd the kids don't even seem to have ANY acknowledgement of their father. I don't recall it being mentioned they didn't know him or remember him (such as if he took off when both were too young to remember). There was no indication he mistreated any of them while married, other than just being someone who would just disappear (which is bad enough, of course). Maybe they didn't miss him and thought he was that much of a jerk (certainly plausible) but I just thought it was odd they make zero reference to him even towards the ending which I won't spoil.

It's not a big deal of course. Just something I noticed.

On the pro side I thought it was a well written story. I liked all the characters and didn't feel like punching any of them (hey, it's happened to me before with other stories!) so that's definitely a great sign. It was an enjoyable and fun read.

Bottom line is, did I enjoy reading this? I did. I would recommend reading it especially if you're a fan of romantic themed movies or stories.
