“You’ll basically be my prisoner,” Carson said with one of his smooth smiles. “Sort of like Belle in Beauty and the Beast, but without the singing dishes or the library.”

Olivia fiddled nervously with her purse strap. “The lack of a library is a drawback in a prison.”

When Olivia’s brother embezzles money from work, she’s left to plead his case to his boss and beg for leniency.

The only problem? Her brother’s boss is Olivia’s old high school nemesis, Carson Clark. He’s not known for leniency.

He’s tall, handsome, a football star, and unhappy to be back in his small hometown, taking a break from the NFL while he recovers from an injury.

Olivia offers to work in her brother's place and help Carson renovate a luxury cabin in the mountains. How bad can the job be?

Turns out, pretty bad. She’s tired, sore, and deeply in need of a massage.

And she’s stuck with Carson 24/7 until the project is finished.

So cute. There were times I found myself smiling while reading it. I was concerned her arc wouldn’t be completed at the end, but she came in clutch. Great writing. Great narrators. Now I want to read the next ones!

An enjoyable read

Enough angst to make you mad at injustice and enough happy ending bits to make you feel hopeful. A recommended read.

When enemies to more is really ENEMIES to more!

He was a clueless high school football jock, worried about grades, friends and playing pranks. She was the honor roll queen who grew up way too fast when her dad abandoned them and she had to hold things together. His pranks became way too personal and her high school experience was brutal. Fast forward 10 years and now she’s saving her brother again and taking his place on the construction site of renovating a luxury cabin after he embezzled funds from his boss-her high school nemesis Carson. There’s lots of laughs but also a look at hard things each are dealing with, now and in the past. His life hasn’t been the perfect picture she thought it was and she carried a lot more baggage than she thought. Are both characters flawed? Yes. He was a little bit too excited about karma and having her as his “slave”, she was so invested in her family that she enabled their dependence. There are fun references to Beauty and the Beast, libraries and Gaston among others.Clean ( with one fully clothed shower scene).

Cute Romcom about High School Nemeses as Young Adults

This is an enemies to lovers RomCom which made me laugh and laugh. Olivia and Carson have a lot of misconceptions about each other. These misconceptions lead to a lot of misunderstandings between them and contribute to food and paint fights. Their repartee is hilarious. Olivia has some of the best comeback lines ever. She always seems to know what to say in a non threatening, yet interesting way, which keeps Carson on his toes. It turns out Carson has an unknown reading disability which caused bad grades in high school, but didn’t affect his prowess on the football field. It did, however, affect his opinion of Olivia and her other “smart” friends. Being a former teacher, I had several “Carsons” in my classes, and appreciate this subject of reading disabilities being addressed in a non fault finding way.

I liked this story, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series at some point.
