A battle-scarred Scottish duke. A substitute bride. A haunted castle full of secrets.

Roberta “Birdie” Talbot is tired of being practical. As the penniless daughter of a reckless baron, she’s spent years holding her family together. So when a case of mistaken identity offers her a way out—and a chance for adventure—she takes it.

All the way to the Highlands.

All the way to a crumbling castle.

All the way into the arms of a brooding duke.

Gabriel Eversleigh, Duke of Dunross, didn’t plan to survive Waterloo—let alone return home and wed a stranger. His bride was supposed to be quiet, dutiful, and easy to ignore. Instead, he gets Birdie: bold, curious, and entirely unwilling to be dismissed.

But Birdie has secrets of her own. And as she confronts the shadows of Gabriel’s past—and stirs up a mystery hidden deep within the castle walls—they both discover that some ghosts don’t stay buried.

Editorial Reviews

"If Bridgerton and Beauty and the Beast had a baby, you'd get "Birdie and the Beastly Duke". With a dose of Phantom of the Opera thrown in for good measure, this delightful Regency romance takes the reader on an adventure to a gothic castle in Scotland, where a governess named Birdie tempts fate by switching places with a young woman who wants to run away from her arranged marriage." - Reader on Goodreads

"This has got to be the one of the most entertaining book I have read recently." - Reader on Goodreads

Fun to read

Enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. The characters were believable and suited their surroundings. Looking forward to reading the next instalment.

Lovely Beauty and the beast tale

I loved it. So nice to see a practical, intelligent heroine for a change. And a reclusive hero with a heavy guilt complex hidden away in a crumbling castle. Perfectly plotted and love the spice of humor sprinkled all through. Nice pace. A few rough patches in the flow but still very enjoyable.

what an adventure…

Great story with Birdie setting herself up on an adventure of a life time which ended up with her marrying a Duke. It’s a story of how Birdie helped her Duke come out of his morbid cave of despair and learn about love and help him join reality. A lovely story.

Most enjoyable

I am delighted! All three books of the series share the same quality: they are enchanting! I just finished book three with a smile on my face and look forward to the final sequel. Hopefully the author will not stop there and will keep writing

Birdie and the Beastly Duke

This is the third book of the wishing well series I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the fact that birdie was so strong minded and capable and that ghost didn’t frighten her not a lot of romance but worth a read.
