A runaway heiress. A mischievous lord. One unforgettable masquerade.

Half-Indian, orphaned, and forgotten by the man who was meant to protect her, Penelope Reid is through with waiting. Disguised as a boy, she sets off for London to track down her guardian—the man she’s secretly loved since childhood.

But the city is no place for a girl alone, especially one playing at being a gentleman. Lost in a world of duels, dice, and danger, Pen crashes—literally—into Lord Archibald Alworth, a devilishly handsome dandy with a keen eye and a wicked sense of humor.

Archie can't resist the challenge of taking young "Pen" under his wing. Teaching him the ropes of Regency bachelorhood is amusing—until Archie realizes his protégée is not who she seems. When the truth emerges, so do feelings Archie never expected... and Pen never wanted.

Just as Pen begins to question everything—her past, her future, even her own heart—a mysterious sponsor offers her a fresh chance at happiness: a London Season, with one catch. She must give up her disguise and step fully into the role of a lady. But can she reclaim the parts of herself she’s hidden for so long... and still hold on to the love she's only just begun to find?

Editorial Reviews

NOT the usual Regency Romance - it was delightfully different! I fell in love with all the characters as the story unfolded, each unique in their personalities and situations. So many delightful surprises along the way, adding richness and depth to the story - situations you would never guess. These gems are sprinkled throughout the book making it more delightful with each page turn. Lots of laugh-out-loud moments! And discovering the heartfelt feelings, hurts and hopes of the characters and how the author intertwined each person's uniqueness in the story just made it richer and richer. Thank you, Sofi Laporte, for a wonderful story and a great series. – Reviewer on Amazon

Not all romance novels are fun to read. Some get tedious with all the descriptions, but not this one. The characters were engaging, so much so you feel like you are right there in the story with them! – Reviewer on Amazon

the truth will set you free

Pen had always thought she was in love with her guardian Marcus. One day she ran away to find him. But during that time she met someone who saw through her disguise as a boy/man. Saw her for who she was - her character and inner beauty. Alworth met his match in Pen. And with their adventures together they found something else…read and enjoy how and what!!

The end was too sudden

I did like all the other books so onward looking forward to this one, shame she made a floppy attempt to finish it without much of a care, the end seemed rushed and a bit sudden. But on the overall the book is good, although some of the events seemed rushed

Lovely happy ending

Just my kind of storytelling. Beautiful, strong women and handsome strong men. A recipe for success. I want more of this. I love it when these people come to their senses and realise who is right for them! Then we get out happy ending, always very satisfying.

Great series

Loved all 4 books. Funny, romantic and easy to read. Characters are great and quite adventurous. Only wished the extra chapters were included in the story as I always have trouble downloading the extra scenes so give up and never know the endings.

Wickedly Wonderful- Penelope &the Wicked Duke

Penelope and the Wicked Duke is the 4th and final book in The Wishing Well Series!Penelope (Pen) was raised in India and was watching from the stairway of her home, where their was a ball, and her parents were dancing. Marcus Smith was at the ball. Suddenly, an earthquake happened, and her parents died in each other’s arms. Marcus tried to save her mother, he finds Pen buried beneath rubble, saves her and brings her back to England and dumps her off at Miss Hilvershaves school for young girls and has forgotten about her ever since.Pen masquerades as a boy, travels toLondon in search of the man she has loved all her life, the elusive guardian Marcus Smith. Pen does not trust easily, only her friend Lucy.Pen literally runs into the Vicount Alworth (a dandy) who takes her under his wing, becomes her self imposed guide and guardian and derives great amusement in introducing her to life of a society bachelor. She lands up in a duals, gaming hells.A mysterious Patron steps forward to sponsor her for the season, under the condition that Pen turn herself back into a lady.I will leave the rest of the story off, as I do not to reveal the outcome. This story is witty, humerous, I was laughing out loud, at times but also has some heart breaking moments.I thoroughly enjoyed the series and sad to see it has come to an end.Sofi, thank you very much
