He’s a bronc-riding bachelor. She’s everything he didn’t know he needed.

Jake’s a confirmed bachelor chasing rodeo wins—not relationships. But when Beth needs a place to stay on the circuit, his trailer becomes her uneasy refuge.

Beth attempts to keep Jake at arm’s length, but he’s charming, frustrating, and impossible to forget. And she’s not risking her heart on a man who won’t settle down.

Rodeo nights turn into stolen moments, and the girl Jake swore he’d never want becomes the only one he can’t resist.

Who knew the one girl he couldn’t have would be the one who finally reached his heart?

Sweet Story

I recently discovered Danae Little as an author in the Unforgettable Cowboy series before this one. She has a talent of using bad situations in life to make strong, conflicted characters. It is great to see her couples come together with pain, fear, and distrust and use their past experiences to help others - just like real life. The characters struggle with their Christian values and how to apply them to their lives, but the books are not “preachy,” so even a non-believer can enjoy the sweet stories. Jake and Beth’s story is especially good about dealing with our past.

Patience needed! Poor Beth!

This was a sweet, clean, semi-Christianstory and I enjoyed it. I do have a complaint, however. Twice sincere tears were referred to as "crocodile tears." Incorrect! They are in the dictionary as "insincere" tears. That was how I had always understood them.Karla B.

A little slow

But then again, the story jumps right in. It starts with Jake and Beth already bunking together. We gradually get the background to their situations, but it is a little confusing at first.
By the end of the book, it was annoying that Beth kept assuming things. She said that was the lesson she was supposed to learn, but she didn't seem to. She threw me off a few times with her assumptions, because they seemed random. And not once did Jake and Beth just have a conversation about expectations and relationships. So much of their angst could have been handled by talking to each other.

Also, this is book 1 in a new series. It is supposed to be a stand alone. But there were several characters that were in another series. It didn't feel like they just tied into the story. It felt like you needed to read the other stories to understand why these characters were brought up. (There was also a very unnecessary spoiler about one of the couples. It didn't flow with the story and could have easily been left out.)

One more pet peeve. Two characters names changed. At first, Jake's brother was Matt. Then it was Jimmy. And Derek was later referred to as Deter.
