She’s running from her past. He’s building a future he can control. But love? That was never part of the plan…

After a childhood spent scraping by, Gage Blackwell made one vow—he would never go without again. Now a successful entrepreneur in the heart of Carolina Cove, Gage has built a financial empire through sheer grit and hustle. Multiple businesses, multiple income streams, and total control. That’s the key to safety… and peace of mind.

Until Sloane Walker shows up.

Fiercely independent and hiding secrets of her own, Sloane is used to living in the shadows. On the run from her powerful, dangerous family, she’s been drifting from place to place, never staying long enough to grow roots. Her father and brothers may not want to hurt her—but they’ll do whatever it takes to silence her. Because Sloane knows too much about the dirty money their “respectable” accounting firm launders for criminals.

After riding out a hurricane together, sparks fly between Gage and Sloane—and something deeper begins to bloom. But the closer they get, the more Sloane’s past threatens to catch up. When her brother tracks her down and makes a dangerous ultimatum, she’s faced with a devastating choice: disappear forever or risk everything for love.

Gage has always believed control is everything. Sloane has never known what freedom truly feels like. Together, they’ll have to learn that love isn’t about running or holding on too tight—it’s about standing still long enough to fight for something real.

Small Town Romance AND Protective Hero?? Swoon!

ReviewI’m a first time reader of Kay Lyons and I was NOT disappointment by this book!Flirting with Forever is book 6 of the Blackwell Brothers series and they’re all written as interconnect standalone. I always worry dropping into the middle of a series that I might feel lost but that was not the case with this book. I felt like I had all the information needed to understand the storyline and the characters involved. This small town romance kept me reading until the very end and with a well paced story, I didn’t feel like the story felt rushed or too slow. The character development is smooth and consistent with who they are and nothing seemed rushed or out of character. The story contained multiple tropes but not too many that it overwhelmed the story or characters. If you enjoy small-town romance, strong heroines, protective heroes, emotional slow burns, and heartwarming happily-ever-afters, this sweet contemporary romance is a must-read second-chance at life and love.Thank you to The Author Agency for providing me with an ARC of this book. This review and opinions are my own!

Sloane and Gage

Book six of the Blackwell Brothers Series. This is my first read from the series and I was not disappointed.A sweet small town read, opposites attract, slow burn and no spice. But definitely, a must read!Sloane is our strong heroine, who is on the run, hiding from her dangerous family. Gage is determined to never go without again, after a very difficult childhood. He works really hard every day to build his business. When a storm traps them both, sparks fly, however, their story unfolds slowly. I love how protective Gage was of Sloane and how their love story slowly unfolded. If you love slow burn, protective hero, opposites attract, this book is for you.

You have to read this book, actually the whole series!

1.5 🌶️Sloane is on the run from her past.Gage is trying to juggle way too much without letting any of his huge family down. After Sloane finds her way to Carolina Cove. She and Gage are forced to stay together at Gage’s house when a hurricane makes landfall. Tensions rise, secrets are revealed, and the chemistry is undeniable. When Sloane’s brother tracks her down, she needs to make an impossible decision. Does she keep running or stand up to her family in hopes of freedom. When Sloane inevitably leaves Gage, in the middle of the night, hearts are broken. Will they be able to come back together, trust each other, and mend their hearts? This is my first Kay Lyons book. It will NOT be my last! This book was so good! Yes it is at the end of series, and no I haven’t read the others, but she does a great job making sure the reader doesn’t feel like pieces are missing. The emotion she writes into this story is phenomenal! The angst, the fear, the frustration, and the love are all there and can easily be felt through the reader. I can’t wait to read the rest of The Blackwell Brothers Series.

Flirting With Forever

Flirting With Forever by Kay Lyons. Though it’s book 6 in the Blackwell Brothers series, it works well as a standalone. This was my first read from Kay Lyons, and she did not disappoint!

This is a heartfelt small-town romance that kept me fully invested from start to finish. The story is intriguing, the pacing is well-balanced, and the slow-burn connection between the characters is incredibly satisfying. The suspense, mystery, and buried lies added an extra layer that kept me turning the pages.

Sloane is a strong, guarded heroine, hiding from a powerful and dangerous family. Gage, determined to never go without again after a difficult childhood, now works non-stop building his business empire. When a storm traps them together, sparks fly—but their emotional journey unfolds slowly, in the best possible way.

I loved how Gage respected Sloane’s boundaries, especially given their unique situation—him being both her boss and her temporary roommate. His protectiveness never crossed into possessiveness, and that balance was refreshing. Sloane’s resilience and Gage’s determination make them a compelling pair. Watching them slowly open up to love, trust, and the idea of a real future was very satisfying.

If you enjoy emotional slow burns, protective heroes, strong heroines, and a touch of suspense with your romance, definitely give this one a read!

Sloane and Gage

Sloane is trying to start fresh and has now found herself in a small tourist town on the east coast. She needs some money to continue moving before she is found again, but she doesn’t want anyone to know her true identity. Unknowingly, Gage helps her by giving her a safe space to park her car which leads to her going inside the shop the next morning and getting a job.

Gage has lived in the small town forever and is a master of everything. He always helps others and makes sure that he has a good nest egg of money for himself. He never wants to go without again. After a few different times, finding Sloane in her car, Gage agrees to let her stay with him for a short amount of time.

Sloane and Gage begin to learn more about each other and they begin to trust and fall for each other.

I loved the heart-warming story of Gage being Sloane’s protector with little to no information. The suspense aspects were great and I loved reading Flirting with Forever.
