A charming story of slow burn romance written with a deft hand by Jennie Goutet.A bride who comes with money and an heir who comes with a title but without finances.Can this couple surpass differences in station to meet on an equal level where love may blossom.

Liked both character growth.....throughout the book not rushed moving at required pace.loved main leads thoghtfulness. N lastly friendship formed between young couples was good to see..

Affetto e orgoglio

La trama è un classico della letteratura romantica: il matrimonio imposto per motivi di interesse che si rivelerà una unione di affetti dopo un inizio travagliato.In questo caso la partenza è davvero ardua: Miss Katherine Stokes, sorella di un ricco uomo d'affari di Bristol viene "venduta" dal fratello in matrimonio al visconte Lord Hayworth in cambio di una ricchissima dote e della possibilità di utilizzare la nuova parentela aristocratica nei suoi affari.Dal canto suo lo sposo si rende conto dell'aspetto mercenario della cosa di cui tuttavia egli ha bisogno per rimettere in sesto la sua proprietà terriera e per sganciarsi dalla presenza troppo ingombrante del conte suo padre.Il suo sarà solo un matrimonio di interesse e pertanto si rifiuta di vedere la sposa prima delle nozze.Il risultato è prevedibile. Kitty si sente in trappola ma decide che uscire dalla casa del fratello è la migliore soluzione anche se è decisa a non concedere spazio al suo sposo e Phineas scopre il giorno delle nozze che la sua sposa è una ragazza molto bella e bene educata e se ne sente subito attratto. Il suo onore tuttavia gli impedisce di consumare il matrimonio di fronte ad una moglie ostile e poco entusiasta.A salvare questa unione ci pensa il fatto che entrambi gli sposi son in fondo persone per bene e fin dall'inizio cercheranno di trovare il modo di comunicare.I loro tentativi di avvicinamento sono congruenti con l'epoca e la diversa classe sociale cui appartengono per cui i fraintendimenti sono sempre in agguato.Mi è molto piaciuto il lento avvicinarsi dei due protagonisti e soprattutto i goffi tentativi di corteggiamento di Phineas che non si era mai posto il problema.Le dinamiche ostili dei genitori di lui sono perfettamente comprensibili ma con il tempo verranno attenuate.Se posso fare un appunto è invece sull'atteggiamento delle persone di servizio di Lord Hayworth che globalmente non portano molto rispetto alla nuova padrona di casa in virtù delle sue origini e che di conseguenza avranno quello che si meritano. Questa mi sembra una svolta nella trama fatta per inserire l'elemento di ostilità e consentire al protagonista Phineas di risolvere il problema ma non lo trovo affatto realistico. Al tempo era una fortuna poter lavorare in una dimora signorile, specie per le classi meno abbienti e di sicuro nessuno avrebbe messo a rischio il proprio futuro per questo.Ciò detto il romanzo mi ha fatto passare qualche bella oretta di questa calda estate

Again, a very enjoyable story.Beginning with their marriage, their less than pleasant relatives, but finding good friends, this story is entirely a good read from start to finish

Historical Romance

I really enjoyed this slow burn romance and read it in a day. Phineas was so patient with Kitty. I loved how he wooed his wife and stood up for her. I loved Kitty's relationship with her younger brother and her caring nature. A love story with a heart-warming ending.Definitely recommend.
