Taco ‘Bout Love is the first book in the Taco Truck Romance series by Candice Y. Johnson. This is a new author for me. The book is very well written. I think the cover is beautiful. I enjoyed seeing the references to some of the things currently happening in certain states with respect to their directives. The state leaders are changing the way history is allowed to be taught with respect to slavery and Black history. This situation needs to be rectified. This book features Paisley Bent and Everson Loving. We learn that Ever’s father recently passed away and the will stipulates he must be married for 6 months to receive his inheritance. He is a police officer and wants to instead open a library. Paisley makes and sells her very tasty taco creations. She has an old ice cream truck to convert, but it was her grandfather’s and is in need of repairs. As the book opens, Paisley is having a very bad day as she sees her boyfriend in her bed with another woman. She is interrupted in her plan to seek revenge on her boyfriend by the arrival of handsome Ever. She doesn’t know he’s a policeman when he stops her. They discover the other woman is Ever’s best friend, roommate and police partner Shawna. Paisley also has ongoing issues with her despised brother in law who stole her recipes and is using them on his tv show. Ever and Paisley talk and he realizes she has definite cash problems. When they can’t get her truck to start he takes it to his friend’s shop to be fixed. He suggests that they get married to claim and share his inheritance. She also has a problem with giving her sister money anytime she begs for it, even if she goes without. They get married in a sweet ceremony. Ever and Paisley suffer through problem after problem, developing feelings for the other as they do. The question for the reader is whether or not they will turn a fake relationship into the real thing. I was rooting for them as I saw them as a great couple.I found both Paisley and Ever to be genuinely nice and likable. Paisley’s grandmother and Ever’s friend Mr. Furlough were also very eccentric but nice. There were also many characters I found I didn’t like: Shawna, Paisley’s sister and brother in law, her ex, and her parents. By the end of the book, I did feel better about Paisley’s parents and sister. I loved that she named the taco truck Pink Lady. The story was enjoyable and entertaining and easy to read. I will look forward to the next book in the series.
