Mirror mirror made of gold,

Here's the story you were never told . . .

I've always suspected some sort of mystery surrounding my adoption—I mean, who doesn't remember anything before they were five? But the tall, dark, axe-wielding fae huntsman showing up at my door yelling that I'm a lost princess and the Unseelie Queen is coming to kill me? That I didn't see coming.

It's hard to argue with a pack of evil wolves on your doorstep, so I grab my sword, my cookbook, and my seven chickens (yes, you heard me right), and follow him to Faerie. I'm all for not being eaten by wolves. I'm less excited about the fact that the huntsman seems to think I'm the only one who can defeat the Unseelie Queen and save Faerie. I'm not powerful or magical, even if my baking skills are legendary.

But the longer I stay in Faerie, the more I want to help its people. And the more time I spend with the terrifyingly handsome huntsman, the more I want to convince him that he's who I need by my side while I do. He'd do anything to protect me, but it's my heart he's putting in danger.

Do I have what it takes to go from baking pies to saving kingdoms? Who will take care of the chickens if I fail?

Sweet Story

I enjoyed this book, but I didn’t fly through it like when I read the Rose Gate, Lily Gate, and Glass Gate. I LOVED those books so much and expected to adore this one as well. Unfortunately, this story fell a bit flat comparatively. The intensity/drama was way down. It just didn’t grip me like the other stories did. I struggled to get into this one. Even the romance didn’t feel that thrilling, which is just not what I expected.I enjoyed the magical tattoos but thought so many of the details of this story needed to be fleshed out better. That said, this was still a fun read, but definitely far more cozy than exciting, which just wasn’t my preferred cup of tea.

Another excellent fairytale retelling from Hanna Sandvig

I’ve read everything else in this series and loved them. This one did not disappoint when I had the opportunity to read an advance copy and typo hunt. Don’t expect Disney dwarves in this retelling of Snow White … there ARE dwarves, more Tolkien than Disney but overall entirely Hanna Sandvig, and there are … erm chickens …seven of them …one sneezes, one is especially dozy …you get the idea! The character development is really strong, especially for our hero, Kylian, and although it’s standalone, if you’ve read the others you’ll meet a host of old friends along the way.I read through once and then immediately started again from the beginning as it was such a treat! The only thing I didn’t like was that I am absolutely not a fan of tattoos and they’re integral to this story which was mildly off-putting, but that’s just me.

Sweet treats and sweeter characters

I was fortunate enough to get an ARC copy of this book and my goodness it's just brilliant! From animal companions galore (did I spend half an hour looking at the different chicken breeds, yes, yes I did and they're all fantastic), to grumpy/sunshine dynamics, to baked goodies, it's got EVERYTHING I needed, yes including dragons, it made me cry of happiness, I think I actually squealed at one point? I loved every moment of this Snow White retelling. If you love cosy and sweet fairytales then this one is for you.It is handy to have read at least The Wolf Gate before jumping on as a lot of other characters do appear and it would make it easier to know them before hand.Just like all of the other Gate books, I devoured this one and I can't wait for others to love and appreciate as much as I do!

5* again

What can I say a very good retelling of snow white - Neve was a great snow white and one thing I loved in particular was she actually wasn't the defenceless normal princess - she came with sword skills that I admit I would have loved to read more of - her training sessions with kylian I definitely needed more of!!!Now our lead male the huntsman/prince kylian was excellent and loved his grump (especially with the coffee scene at the beginning)I love Hanna's writing style. Though I definitely would have enjoyed more of a flesh out of the sword training scenes (I just wanted more)And I loved all the old characters making their appearance (the dwarves are hilarious -the two kings I loved so much)Now the chickens ... Very interesting cause I know if I were carrying baby chick around with me I'd be a nervous reck making sure they were well cared for (this was nicely done and I dont feel anxious incase one of them got killed)The pacing of the story was good I don't feel it was rushed, nor was the ending rushed which is a pet peeve of mine the characters actually had a good ending and left it open for the next story in this world. It was an interesting ending to the evil queen so I'm going to love seeing what is next.Thank you to the author for RAC and I hope you like the honest review.

Squeee!!!

Ok, I adore this newest addition to the world of Faerie. There are so many great things about the book, I don’t know where to start! Neve is a kick butt heroine - who doesn’t love a girl who can bake, gets along great with animals, can kick your tush in a sword fight, and has tattoos?! Kilian so protective, but not in a way that takes away from Neve’s ability to care for herself, and I love how he grows into seeing his worth because of their relationship. They have the cutest romance, and the side characters are so fun. The dwarves are hilarious and the chickens are the icing on the cake (or many cakes, as you’ll find out through the book.) I like how many of the characters from the other books are involved in the story, and yet we know there is more to come in the search for her sister. This is my favorite in the series and I love each and every one of the books in it so that’s saying something.
