He vanished into the waves. She sank beneath sorrow. But neither stayed lost. Ian MacDrummond left Scotland behind—his name, his children, his broken heart. Reborn as Ian Stewart aboard the Chevalier Noire, he buried his past and sailed forward. Until one mission—and one woman—pulls it all back. Noelle Clement carries her own grief, and somehow, her pain speaks to his own.

She’s searching for her daughter. He’s remembering his own. Noelle once knew joy. Now she knows determination. When her child disappears, she refuses despair and accepts help from the bold Durets—who place her under Ian’s protection. But the Scotsman isn't just a shield. He's a man on the edge of regret, aching to believe he still deserves the title of father, of husband, of something more.

Together, they learn that healing doesn’t erase the past—it reclaims it. As they fight to recover Noelle’s child and confront a shadow from her former life, something unexpected begins to bloom: trust. Then tenderness. And finally, love. Because some chances don’t arrive until you’ve lost everything. And some futures don’t begin until you forgive yourself.

He thought his story was over. She reminds him it’s just beginning.

🪶If you’ve ever needed to start over—and hoped someone would walk beside you as you do… this story is yours.

NOTE: Each love story in this series can be read as a stand-alone. However, most readers prefer to read them in order.

About the Author

Hi, I’m Bree Wolf—a USA Today bestselling author, former academic, and life-long lover of stories. I studied English and Specialized Translation, wandered the halls of universities, spending more years than I should have trying to be reasonable.Eventually, that quiet, persistent voice in my head said: It’s time to write.I’ve since published over fifty historical romances, each one stitched together from pieces of my own heart: doubts, regrets, fears, and messy, hopeful dreams. I love chocolate (especially when chapters get emotional), cry far too easily at my keyboard, and have a deep spiritual bond with cats… which is tragically one-sided, as I’m terribly allergic. A lifelong heartbreak, truly.

Deep but long

Usually I complain about a story being too short with so much crammed in it feels rushed. Not this time. I was really into the story at the start. Great drama, fine romance and a perfect resolution. Catch and punish the villain. Done and dusted. But then it went on and on. I kept thinking this has to be the end. I know it was setting up the next series but it felt long and drawn out. I will not be re-reading this one.

Herzergreifend erzählt

Wie in allen Bücher von Bree Wolf, taucht man in die Gefühlsebenen der Personen voll ein und wird von der Geschichte mitgerissen.

Good story, frustrating to read

The story line is interesting, however I found myself getting bored with the repetition of the same emotional discussions that were in a never ending circle! Also, for a book in English the word choices are frequently incorrect as if it had been translated from another language. My OCD with the odd choice of words and missing words made me put the book down. I read this book after reading its predecessor, and it seems that this is the author's style. For the reasons above I kept 1 star in the wings for later. I feel I need a break in authors before I come back to read the next in the series.I give hearty kudos for writing a good story with attention to the period, and language used by different characters and colorful situations. Descriptive details bring the story into high definition and brilliant color in my mind! Heaven knows I could not accomplish this literary work of art! Bree has birthed a series of literary children to entertain us all. Brava! Well done!

Noelle Clement suffered at the hands of a monster, who now has her child. She will not let him win.

With the help of the Duret family and a man not known to her, Ian Stewart, she'll get her daughter back and so much more. Ian Stewart, a Scott, rescued from the sea along with Wolf companion are in the employ of the Durets. He has vowed to find and rescue the child and protect them both, even if it means giving up his life to save them. Bree Wolf paints a beautiful pictures of life out on the sea with the wind and waves. She also has a way of a glimpse into the minds and hearts of these characters and their friends and family. I am sure you'll enjoy this wonderful story.

PTSD Trigger Warning

I have always enjoyed Bree Wolf’s books. However, it does deal with a woman who was beaten, raped, her child kidnapped, and burned horribly by her abuser. I didn’t get very far into the book. Her portrayal of the effects of PTSD after horrific abuse were spot on. Hopefully, I’ll be able to finish reading, what I’m sure is a lovely story of love and healing, in the future.
