better than most of its kind

There are one or two improbabilities. There are a few too many clues to its American origins. But on the whole, not a complete waste of time.

Brilliant writing

This is one of the few Regency Romances written by an American that I have not scorned. The author has indeed done her research and all the details, including the speech, is historically accurate. However, this is not the only reason why I loved it. The story isn't especially original, in fact, it is a familiar storyline of many traditional Regency Romances, but I loved all the characters that made the story what it was. They were all very real, imperfect and true to the time period. I was as endeared to, or disgusted with each character as Kate was. It's very refreshing to not have a dark, brooding hero, but instead Lord Ashworth was witty and had a very playful sense of humour. Having said that though, he did have the seriousness and steel required when needed. I am quite in love with him! LOLKate is a strong, independent woman, but not rude or selfish as so many authors perceive "strong" women to be. Her actions are all explained by her upbringing or her emotional struggles. She doesn't want to conform to Society's strictures, but does feel herself constrained by them in that she can't do what she would really like to do.This is not a story for readers looking for a lot of action or excitement. It is a character-driven, relatively slow, sweet, clean, traditional Regency Romance, with a little action at the end. There are multiple typos in the book, but that does not detract from the story - just my editing OCD coming into play. Recommended for YA and anybody who loves a traditional Regency Romance in the style of Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer.

A lovely read

I love regency and period pieces in general. I fell in love with Kate and the mysterious William from the beginning. It's well written and the plot drew me in deeper. I wish I had more of their story, however, I will gladly read the next in this series.
