Emily Smith has always been told she’s quite the catch, so why do all of her relationships end so quickly? And why does she attract pretty boys who make her feel anything but feminine? Sure, she’s a firefighter and a better mechanic than most of the guys she knows, but she still wants someone who makes her feel like a lady. When Dominic Jewell shows up, she thinks she’s found Mr. Right.

Dominic is a brand new airline captain and is on top of the world. As the youngest of eight siblings, he’s been bossed around his whole life and is ready to be in charge. But he feels like he’s a half step behind this incredible new woman in his life.

When Emily faces tough days at work, and needs to recuperate in her own way, can Dom figure out how to be there for her but also give her the space she needs? If he can’t strike a balance between being strong and being supportive, they might both decide that it’s just another failed attempt.

Firefighter and Airline Pilot to the Rescue

Emily Smith is the firefighter/engineer and a first rate mechanic. Dominic Jewell is among the youngest airplane Captains for his airline (he doesn't know of anyone younger). In some ways they're both alphas within their own families and professions but are struggling to find a life partner who can deal with the responsibilities and burdens that come along with their professions. Emily experiences some dark days as a result of her career that were described perfectly. I was the teacher that kids chose to tell when they were abused. The stories and the marks would definitely follow me home and interfere with sleep. You have to develop a strategy to deal with your emotions or it would be too difficult to go back. When Emily employs her strategy which is a day away from all human contact and involves lots of ice cream and Disney movies, Dominic is hurt when she doesn't want to see him. I also enjoy the interplay of the firefighters at her station and how it compared to the interplay with Dominic's very large family. They eventually work out their problems with respect to both their professional and personal relationships. I recommend this book and look forward to others by Daniel Banner.

Really real!

Really enjoyed this book...I’ve given women authors a lot of my interest, but Banner does an amazing job and knows his subject well! Thank you for such a pleasant read!
