Editorial Reviews

Finding Liberty was a Quarter Finalist in the BookLife Prize.

And Publisher's Weekly said, that:

[Finding Liberty] has a serious emotional core. The story of two individuals recovering from injury and trauma, and redirecting their lives, is memorable. Baker’s prose is warm, engaging, and fresh, and the voices of her protagonists are both distinctive and immediately captivating.

Baker brings a unique and welcome level of depth to her primary characters. As such, their romance carries greater meaning and momentum. The leads are immensely sympathetic, and their chemistry is undeniable.

I remembered reading the h's brother's story (Geo and Trig) and decided to read this book. The h was bound for the Olympics, one
of the best downhill skiers in America, until five years ago when she had a car accident. She became paralyzed and now only has partial function in her legs so she's in a wheelchair. She's 27 years
old and she analyzes companies to determine whether they're a
good investment for her brother's acquisition company.

The H has been managing his families car dealerships for the last
four years but he prefers to work with his hands, either making or fixing things (furniture). He's also a discharged marine. He's 29 years old and a little insecure because he's not college educated,
rich, and no longer in the service.

There were a few parts in this story that made my body feel weak and I had to stop reading for a few minutes. I usually get like this when I watch something medical related and it makes me feel weak or faint, but it's rare feeling this when reading. It just shows the author made things, like her after surgery description, very realistic.

Overall, the story was good. I liked this story better than the brother's story. I wouldn't re-read but it was good enough to read once and I didn't get bored.

Finding Liberty is a unique part of The Finding Home Series

This is the story of Brekka who is wealthy and beautiful. She was an olympic caliber skier until she was crippled in a auto accident. She is the sister of Trig, who we met in the previous books in this series. Brekka meets Rob and he is smitten. Rob was Geo's best friend before she married Trig. He is part of a family who owns car dealerships. In his spare time he makes beautiful one-of-a-kind furniture. He sets up a charity to help his fellow marine and others in wheelchairs. The characters are very well developed and well-written. You can't help but like them and enjoy their stories as they interlace in the different books in this series.

Beautiful Story

I have to start off by saying that I absolutely love this series! Bridget Baker has fast become a favorite author. Her books are gritty and real, while still showing the sweet and tender parts of life also. Her characters are rich and three-dimensional and her stories are full and complex without being contrived or far-fetched.

If you read this series from the start and in order, you will meet Brekka and Rob earlier. You absolutely can read this as a stand alone, but I liked knowing a bit about them from the earlier books. Both characters have physical issues, but even more each is dealing with inner hurts and brokenness. I will be honest and say this story pulled on my heart strings often. I truly ached for both characters, especially for Brekka. I will add that a childhood friend was paralyzed in a car accident while we were in college and Brekka reminds me a great deal of her. I have no doubt that added to the story for me personally.

Despite the heavy issues in this book and some very poignant moments, there are also plenty of laugh-out-loud scenes too. Brekka’s first meeting with Rob is one for the books! So fierce and so fun! And the witty banter between the two of them is great!

It would be so easy to assume that this is a story about a persona with disabilities overcoming insecurities.. and there is truth in that, But honestly there is so much more to it. This is a portrait of two broken people not trying to fix each other, but loving each other right where they are.. brokenness and all… and seeing the beauty in that love.

NOTE: I listened to the audiobook version and the narration is very well done.

Fabulous Series

This book is part of the fabulous Finding Home Series. Although it is a stand alone story it is so much better to read the series in order with its cast of recurring and connected characters. Brekka is one of the strongest and yet most truly vulnerable people and Rob is so loving and understanding of her true to life fears. I loved all the books so much I never wanted them to end and in a funny twist, the author kind of gives you the never ending End to the last book Finding Peace.
