Having magical powers is a one-way ticket to prison.

My friends would say I’m confident and clever. I like the beach and love S'mores. Normal, right? Turns out I’m also a witch, which means I’m going to prison.

Riptivik Magic Academy recently became a reform school, opening its doors to all supernatural misfits: fae, shifters, vampires, and more. A paperwork glitch lands me here as I await my sentencing. While I was hoping life would be rainbows, apple pie, and sparkly magic, there’s the little issue with my powers—can’t control them. No one can.

There are guys too: the mysterious and brooding JJ who appears after he sees my name in the stars. We hate each other. Then Bobby Gold whose smile could melt any girls' heart. Good thing I’m not just any girl.

As I try to figure out my newfound abilities (not to mention the homework and spellwork), tension on campus mounts. Gathered in the cemetery on All Hallows Eve, chaos erupts. It turns out demons are after me. The last person I expect comes to my rescue and we have to work together to keep my rare magic safe.

Meanwhile, I’m just trying to get through the day without turning anyone into a toad...or committing an actual crime. Then again, if I want to break free, I might just have to. #WitchProblems

Enjoyable read

I was given this book for free as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this author’s work in Court of Crown and Compass series and enjoyed this first book in Law and Disorder. The main character Maija is a witch, is appealing even though she’s a typical teen :). I liked handsome JJ with his mysterious and heroic personality. Yassi is a favorite of mine too. The storyline is captivating, it kept me engaged. Looking forward to reading more, rooting for Maija and JJ to become more than allies.

Magical Academy Series Starter

**3.5 Stars**Overall I found the concept for this to be really cool, kinda like a modern teenage American Harry Potter (after everything went downhill when Umbridge became a teacher and everyone was under attack). The main character Maija had a weird day and learns that she is a witch, and not just any kind, but a rare wish witch. She is swept away to magical training school just to learn that the school has been taken over and is now basically a reform school one step away from a prison, trying to train all kinds of magical creatures to keep their magic locked up and controlled. Maija has no idea how to control whatever magic everyone thinks she has and she does not know who to trust but things are getting messy fast.I liked the supernatural world the author created and the magical feel to the story, as well as all the mysteries that kept both me and Maija guessing. I did find that the story jumped around a lot and it was hard for me to follow at times since there was no real flow or consistency, making me confused and occasionally disconnect from the story. Also, a lot of the story focused on pie and I was a little over it- while you are afraid the supernatural world is imploding, I don't think a conversation about pie is the answer. But that being said, I would like to read the next book in the series to see what happens next and I am so for team JJ and his illusive attitude and top hat.

Interesting a wish witch ...

She have no idea to be a wish witch which somehow makes her special powers and practice by magic, I don't know why everyone is after her because of she's wish witch?

Academy, prison

What was supposed to be an academy had all the hallmarks of a prison. Interesting concept but very drawn out with much to be explained still.
