Serendipity Book 2

MISS ABIGAIL NASH is no stranger to loneliness. Her mother died giving birth to her, her father's business dealings took him away more often than not, and her ailing great-aunt, unable to provide much in the way of companionship, was a lack-luster guardian at best. When her dear friends offer to launch her into London society, her life takes a turn for the better.

An instant success, with suitors, social engagements, and offers aplenty, it seems Abby will at last settle into the life of her dreams. But appearances aren't always what they seem, and dreams often become disappointments.

Only months into her marriage with a proclaimed darling of the ton, Abby finds herself widowed, penniless, and increasing. Even more precarious are the feelings she’s developing for a man she shouldn’t love, a man the law prohibits her from marrying—her late husband’s brother, the Marquess of Brigston.

Prudence’s book comes alive

Readers of the first entry in this series will know what I mean when I say this is Prudence’s book. In the previous novel, Prudence set out to write a romance of a woman who loses her husband and finds love again. That is this book.Abby married Jasper, and then he dies in a hunting accident (in the previous book, Stephen dies in a hunting accident). While staying with Jasper’s family, she falls in love with his older brother. Now, my one quibble in this book is that it cites the Hardwicke Act as the impediment to Abby’s marriage to Brigston. However, the act does not explicitly forbid the marriage of a widow to her brother-in-law, so I found that plot device a stretch.I enjoyed this book. I thought the author handled the discussion about and impact of sexual assault pretty well, but readers should be aware that it is part of the story.

Love

The Marquess of Brigston, Morgan, is concerned when his younger brother elopes with Miss Abigail Nash. Abby, months into her marriage, finds herself a penniless widow. As these two share their grief, their feelings develop into something the law prohibits them from acting on.Abby is a definite sweetheart in this book. It is easy to see her reservations from the moment we are introduced to her. The reasons for her choices are not told at first, and when they come to light make her all the more endearing. We start the book with Morgan. He has reservations, and rightfully so, about what his brother has done. His grief over Jasper's death was brilliantly shown, and through it all, he is the perfect gentleman. There is an air of desperation to their story. The law prohibits them from marrying. how will they overcome what appears to be impossible to surpass? I won't spoil it, but it is clever!I would recommend this to readers who love clean Regency Romance.

Another fabulous story!!

Rachel Anderson is fast becoming one of my favorite regency authors. Her characters have so much personality and are developed so well. They are so endearing!! I especially love the romantic, humorous tension that seems to exist between her love interests. And it seems so authentic. My Brother’s Bride was more serious than some of the other Anderson books I’be read, and I think the heaviness of some of the subplots weren’t my favorite. However, the heavier subplots gave the story depth and substance. Another great read!!

Unexpectedly nice

I knew I would like this story, but it caught me by surprise. Reading some of Abby’s story in the first book made me wonder what might happen to her. Turns out it was good to worry. Having to marry quickly and via elopement is the start of her married life.My favorite character was Jasper. It was bitter sweet because I knew what would happen to him from the preview, but learning about him through his family really caused me to respect him.I of course liked the main character, but I don’t see him doing the same thing for someone he was just beginning to know.Three stars because some parts of the story dragged a little.Overall, nice clean read with a good ending.

Another home run.

Anderson never disappoints. She can always be counted on for a lovely story full of forbidden or undesired love, full of laughter and seriousness. She has a real talent for writing a book that just makes you happy.
