Grace Witherspoon’s experiences in New York were far from pleasant. To escape a nightmarish ex, she did the unthinkable.

Left everything behind… and ran.

The second Grace enters the sweet little town of Harland Creek, she falls in love with its neighborly ambiance. It is the perfect place to hide... as long as no one finds out who she really is. That seems easy enough to avoid until the local cop starts hanging around trying to make nice. Sure, he is the perfect man and sweetly protective, but Grace is done with men... or is she?

After catching his fiancée with another man, police officer Sloan Jackson decides it’s best to focus on crime rather than love. Unfortunately, his match-making sister is convinced Grace is perfect for Sloan. Despite his fear of being hurt again, Sloan’s heart softens the first time he lays eyes on Grace. Unfortunately, as the two grow closer, the past comes back to haunt them.

Can their budding relationship withstand the secrets bubbling to the surface? Or will all that's revealed destroy any chance at happiness Grace and Sloan could have had?

Great read

A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Once you start reading you feel for the small town family who looks out for you. Grace arrived in Harland Creek to get a new start and fell in love with the town. Sloan is dealing with a past mistake but finally on the mend to getting his life back. I loved the feel of real life people.

Promise of Grace —. Sloan and Grace aka Jennifer

What a wonderfully written storyline. Grace Witherspoon, once known as Jennifer Montclair, a famous ballet dancer in NYC. She fell in love with the wrong man who turned abusive, put her in the hospital several times and threatened to kill her if she ever tried to leave him. She did escape, found a new identity and made a new start in Harland Creek MS. There she met Sloan Jackson, the local cop and sister to Allison, her new friend. Did didn’t trust men in general and tried to keep her feelings locked up tight but Sloan could tell she had secrets. An emotional read and wonderful characters that will keep you turning page after page. Loved it!.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A very enjoyable story with great characters

I listened to the audio version of this book. It was a very nice, enjoyable story. "Grace" is starting over while hiding from her abusive husband. She has changed her name and relocates far from New York to start over. She literally gets hit by a car in the middle of the small town of Harland Creek because neither she nor the driver was paying attention. But she isn't hurt and she and the driver - Allison - become friends. Allison's brother, Sloan is a police officer in town and he has personal baggage too but still tries to help Grace even tho he doesn't know her story. I thought the author did a good job at expressing Grace's situation, how she was handling it and how she works to try to get past it. I for one, can't imagine being in Grace's situation. It was a story about a serious issue, but the author did great at adding a little humor to it in a way to offer even just a little help to Grace (or someone in her situation) to see a tiny light at the end of that long tunnel, so to speak. Allison and Tabitha were best friends and were hilarious, and funny and they befriended Grace. They were 2 great ladies to have as good friends! The author gave Sloan and Allison such a great sibling connection that the reader could actually feel it. I obtained this via Audible.com
