What could be worse than sharing a kiss with your future step-sibling?

When Amber receives devastating news, she goes completely out of character and kisses the kind, handsome stranger in a bar. Except... he's not going to be a stranger for long. He's about to become a very close part of her life--only not in the way she hoped.

Nick didn't plan to give any woman a chance after having his heart shattered. Especially not a woman he's just met. But there's something about Amber that draws him in. Even when they both find out that his mom and her dad are newly engaged. Which means he just kissed his future step-sister.

The wedding plans keep throwing them together even as they try to fight their growing chemistry. But maybe it's time to give in--if only Amber is willing to trust Nick enough to share the secret she's kept from them all...

A worthy conclusion

I have to be honest. I wasn't so sure about reading a story with Amber considering how things went down between her and Jimmy (from Sandover Beach Week). And to be sure, things were super awkward for a bit. BUT, once she and Emily cleared the air, it was fine. It actually made me SO happy they were able to all move past the awkwardness. Because Amber 100% deserved to be out of the awkward zone.Nick is a hot head. But that can happen to anyone when they hold their feelings in, instead of processing them out. It's a good thing he is brought into the fold with Cash, Jax, Beau, and Jimmy. He's in good company there. Company that can help him heal and forgive.Amber... is like an eternal optimist. Not really someone I can relate to. But she also stuffs her feelings down (this is something I can relate to). But it's in more of a "I'm going through this, it is what it is, I'm not giving it more thought than necessary" kind of way, thus putting her in the optimist category. Which probably works for some things, some times. But it's not going to help her in the long run. Enter Emily. With her blunt nature, she helped Amber heal. She didn't change the circumstances, but she was able to go through her emotions. Instead of ignore them.So she and Nick are the perfect pair. They connect instantly. They're thrown through a loop by their parents' news. But their connection is something worth exploring, and they do. Never mind the parents marrying each other thing. They're adults, no need to make it a thing. And that brings me to the epilogue. And to tears because the series has come to an end. I love the glimpse we get to see into the future. The struggles and heartache Nick and Amber face. The return of Beau and Mercer. The healing of Cash. The growing family of Jax and Jenna. And also the struggles with Emily and babies. (I'd like to point out that she was terrified she'd make a horrible wife because of her parents too... but Jimmy is her partner and they work together. Just sayin'.)I'm sad to see the series end. But I did love getting to know all the characters.

Is it really over?

I loved this series so much. If you haven't read them all, go back and start reading. But if the series must end, this book brought it to a nice end. Nick and Amber have a sweet and somewhat unconventional love story in regards to how they meet. Emma always includes an interesting twist, and this one comes early on. It's fun to see how everyone deals with it and how it unfolds. There's also a serious element that they have to face that makes this story become very realistic and gets you invested in Nick and Amber's happily ever after. Always hate to see a good series come to an end, but I know that just means more to good stories to come from Emma St. Clair.
