The Cowboy Fix is the second story in the Strawberry Ridge series by Susan Lute. I haven't read book one and while that didn't impinge on my enjoyment of this story, I think I would have liked to read in order as there were people and events referenced in this story that I would have liked to see play out in their own story.Nathan Lohmen is kind of the oldest brother of the three boys, adopted as an infant just before his adoptive parents had two children by birth. While his parents didn't treat him any differently to the other boys, as he grew older, he began to feel different. When his father died and then not long after his mother passed away, Nathan was left adrift, not really feeling connected to his brothers, despite loving them.In the previous book, both brothers came back to town after around sixteen years away, so all of them are in their thirties. Blake was the protagonist in book one and is now settled and Jonas is fighting it. So who else is left to fall in love but Nathan. He's barely recovered from a broken pelvis and he's anxious about the ranch, which is not paying it's way after a series of problems dating back several years. The arrival of Izzy to save the day is not welcomed by Nathan whose deep attachment to the ranch makes him want to see it returned to the way it was when their parents were running it. He's already tried several options to improve the property, but with no success.Izzy Payton specialises in coming in as a consultant and turning small businesses in trouble around and making them pay. She's a friend of Blake's fiancée and is the obvious choice when looking for fresh eyes on the situation.A self proclaimed wanderer, Izzy has a plan and it doesn't involve settling down in one place. She enjoys seeing the country as she troubleshoots businesses all over the place. One romantic disaster has made her wary of trusting men, so Nathan's mistrust is something she is happy to plough through with her enthusiasm.Working together on the project to salvage the ranch and with Izzy also helping with looking after the horses, she and Nathan get to know each other, finding their initial assessments of grumpy cowboy and fly by nighter to be a surface impression soon changed. It was really nice to get to know these two and watch them learn from each other. An enjoyable romance and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
