A Coast Guard captain would rather spend his time on the sea...unless he's with the woman he's been crushing on for months. If Dave asks just one more time, will Brooklynn give their second chance at romance another shot?

David Reddington has spent years in the Coast Guard, and his career brings him a lot of joy. But he’s lonely even surrounded by his crew, and he feels like he’s perpetually looking out to the ocean, hoping and wishing he could be as fulfilled on land as he is at sea.

Brooklynn Parrish lost her husband three years ago to an accident on the ocean, and she can’t bring herself to accept Dave’s invitations to dinner. Or lunch. Or even coffee. How he can go out on his ship each day baffles her, and she’s not willing to lose another loved one to the relentless ocean waves.

But Dave only has eyes for her, and when they get put together to organize Hawthorne Harbor’s Spring Fling, Brooklynn can’t deny the attraction between them. As they go through the bachelor auction, tour the blooming apple orchards, and judge the dessert bake-off, their relationship deepens and strengthens. Will she be strong enough to battle the unyielding ocean? Or will she lose her heart to another man destined for a catastrophe at sea?

Sweet Coast Guard Romance

David is living his lifelong dream of being a Coastguard Captain and he couldn't dream of doing anything else. Except, perhaps, spending time with his longtime crush, Brooklynn.Brooklynn lost her husband to the sea three years ago, and has been terrified of the ocean ever since. Despite her attraction to Dave, she can't bring herself to accept his offered of lunch or dinner through the years, for fear of losing someone else she loves to the water.I liked this story, but it wasn't one of my favorites. The characters are sweet and meld well together. I related a lot to Brooklynn, especially when she said she felt blank most of the time. It's a description I've never specifically seen anywhere else. I did have one small continuity issue, in chapter 19 there was a blackout but they put a movie on in the small gym, even mentioning how they had ushers with flashlights in the same paragraph. Overall it is definitely a sweet story I would recommend and none of this series needs to be read in order.***Spoilers***If you do read the whole series... I loved Aunt Mabel's happy ending. I love that her story came full circle from the wisdom she has shared throughout.

Clean romance with a wonderful HEA! I definitely recommend this story!

All I could think of when I saw the cover of The Captain's Second Chance was YUMMMM!!! Elana has written a sweet, clean second chance romance about Dave, a captain in the Coast Guard and Brooklynn, the woman he has loved from afar for more than 20 years. There are so many parts of this story that I liked... family ties, friends, dogs, the ocean and even learning a little about the Coast Guard and some of their duties. But most of all I loved reading about the growing love between Brooklynn and Dave and how they overcame various obstacles, and in Brooklynn's case...fear of the ocean... to get to their Happy-Ever-After. This will definitely be a story I'll read again.

He Asked

I really enjoyed this series. It is a nice summer read. The characters in this book are interesting and engaging. I really liked David. He is sweet with a commanding presence. Brooklyn has a fear of being hurt in love again, but she doesn't understand what it means to involved with someone in the military. A lot of women are not cut out to be married to someone in the military or law enforcement. Nice to see Aunt Mabel found her happy ever after.
