She is capable of managing everything . . . except for her heart.

Tasked with making a brilliant match for her cousin, Lavinia Harcourt whisks her entire household, including their two exotic pets, off to London for the Season. With limited funds and few connections, however, the undertaking is not easy. But Lavinia is nothing if not resourceful, and she comes up with a brilliant solution—one that involves her late father’s reminiscences, a forged letter, and an earl.

After years in London Society, Henry Kingston, the Earl of Carlton, has become jaded to those who would use him for his title and wealth. But when Miss Lavinia Harcourt is ushered into his study, bearing a letter that calls in a favor from his late father’s past, he finds himself obligated to help.

Despite his reluctance and her best intentions, Lavinia inadvertently manages to slowly entangle Lord Carlton in her family affairs, charming him with her frank and open manner along the way. By the time she realizes her own feelings for Carlton, however, she fears that the forged letter that initially brought them together may be the very thing that keeps them apart.

enjoyable

There were some humorous scenes. Well-written dialogue. The heroine was unique. It did not feel like she was subscribing to some modern feminism, but that she was strong almost to her detriment. She was a very believable character. One small irritant was her not confessing earlier. I know most stories hinge on the “secret,” but I just think this type of character would not be able to hold herself back from communicating her guilt. She reminded me of me and I think I would have had to confess way earlier…especially if I knew I were going to lose him anyway!

The Earl and Lavinia

It truly deserves a 5 star rating. A Earl tat hated being used finds when it is Laconia he doesn't mind at all. What starts out as a deception leads to a perfectly-matched couple. Henry is amazing with Laconia and her assortment of relatives and exotic pets. The managing miss gets a partner to help her with the load on her shoulders. She loves her family, but it is wearing her down. She is a honest lady and her deception causes her conscience to trouble her. Henry falls for her and wants to ease her load. He's a hero I can root for from the beginning. Love all the family and pets. Laughed and smiled through the book. They are perfect for each other. Read this book first, so will have to see if any of the others in the series catch my interest. Clean and a delightful read.
