One can only be careless with so many hearts before he ends up breaking his own.

Lord Anthony is an outrageous flirt with a devil-may-care attitude. The last thing on his mind is settling down. When the Countess Du'Breven invites him to her house party, promising to see him married, Anthony finds the prospect diverting and accepts. But when he meets a damsel in distress unwilling to accept his help, Anthony realizes his attraction to her may be his downfall.

Isabel Townshend is at her breaking point, caring for her ailing father and her innocent younger sister. She has a family secret to protect and no time for handsome young men, even at a house party with so many eligible bachelors. When Lord Anthony disturbs her well-laid plans, Isabel realizes her determination to protect her family may cost her future happiness.

With hearts at odds and defenses drawn, will Isabel and Anthony be able to put aside their differences and find love at last?

This is Anthony and Isabel's love story. Really liked the heroine Isabel She put her family first. Didn't care for Anthony. He seemed like the anti-hero until 75% into the story. Then we find out the reason for his behavior. It was hard to switch gears when I disliked him up to then. I wanted the heroine not to give in so easy and rebuff him a little longer. Like the writer and read a book before that I gave a 5 star rating to. What's with no chaperones, and that girl that kissed Anthony in public would have ruined?

Delightful novella!!

LOVED the escape this afforded!! Like the author, I love a good story that makes me forget I'm supposed to be keeping my kids alive. Thank goodness for Disney+ to babysit them while I was whisked away!I am a harsh critic when it comes to all these Regency novellas that are on the market - usually I'm way too distracted by the lack of research, historical inaccuracies, and poor writing. But THIS! This was what I've been longing for!!! Heidi is a gifted and eloquent writer and knows her stuff! My only complaint is that this was a novella and not a full length novel!

A very cleverly witty savvy fun lovely story

So, you know, Hedi Kimball is just smart in a super smooth clever savvy witty way in her phrasing of retorts woven in the story. While there difficulty and challenges for the heroine (Isabel) and she's earnestly dealing with these concerns as best she can, Kimball masterfully weaves in some of the best back and forth dialogue between the hero and heroine. Honestly, they were sooo fabulous, I reread them again and again just to enjoy and smile and chuckle and savor the wit, the fun, the total cleverness of the dialogue. Hey, I'm not one of the regular reviewers who truly know how to write a great review, but I had to give Kimball a shout out for writing such awesomeness that created such enjoyment that caused me to read it in one sitting. Loved the story and this deserves a 5+++ rating!

sweet clean romance

I enjoyed reading this but initially thought Lord Anthony was pretty obnoxious. It was nice to see him grow over the course of the story to learn what will really make him happy in life. It did seem unlikely that the sister would confide in him but that was probably a good way to move the story forward in the time restraints of a novella length story. Isabel also grows as she learns she doesn't have to take on everything alone and to trust in loved ones. It was a sweet happily ever after.Sex: some mild innuendoLanguage: noViolence: mild, not graphic
