Married first. Smitten second.

He’s learned never to trust. She’s determined to show him he can. Tristan Turner has spent a lifetime questioning the intentions of others. Mocked by those closest to him, belittled until doubt became second nature, he’s built a quiet fortress around his heart. So when the captivating young woman he impulsively marries turns out to be someone he didn’t expect… his worst fears flare to life.

She lied once. But her heart has been honest from the start. Beth Walker never intended to masquerade as anyone other than herself. But one white lie becomes a whirlwind—and suddenly she’s wed to a viscount who won’t look her in the eye. Still, Beth knows what she wants. And slowly, tenderly, she begins to show Tristan the truth of who she is: not a fraud, not a fortune-hunter, but someone who sees him. Understands him. Chooses him.

His guard is high. Her hope is quiet. And love might find them anyway. As days unfold and defenses slip, Tristan starts to wonder whether mistrust is the only legacy he must carry. Beth’s steady presence doesn’t demand his affection—it earns it. And somewhere between hesitation and longing, he realizes that judging too quickly could mean missing everything he’s ever needed.

He was taught to expect disappointment. She came to prove he deserves more.

🎭 If you’ve ever been afraid to believe someone’s intentions—and dared to hope that the right person will prove they’re true… this story is yours.

A delightful USA Today bestseller!

USA Today Bestseller

About the Author

Hi, I’m Bree Wolf—a USA Today bestselling author, former academic, and life-long lover of stories. I studied English and Specialized Translation, wandered the halls of universities, spending more years than I should have trying to be reasonable.Eventually, that quiet, persistent voice in my head said: It’s time to write.I’ve since published over fifty historical romances, each one stitched together from pieces of my own heart: doubts, regrets, fears, and messy, hopeful dreams. I love chocolate (especially when chapters get emotional), cry far too easily at my keyboard, and have a deep spiritual bond with cats… which is tragically one-sided, as I’m terribly allergic. A lifelong heartbreak, truly.

An enjoyable read.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I have read from this author. She manages to hold your interest in her storyline and, even though her heroine does not come across as a very sympathetic character at times, as the story develops so does the heroine. I thoroughly recommend this book to readers who enjoy this particular genre.

Pretty good

I enjoyed this one. I liked the characters and found the situations fairly easy to follow. It was difficult to understand why Tristan was so determined not to see his Uncle's hatred. How easily he allowed himself to be manipulated. Beth was stronger and much easier to sympathize with. Good ending. But the epilog from the previous book really spoiled the closing epilog on this one.

Deeply enjoyable, satisfying & very well written

I don't often write reviews but have been so enjoying these books that I have been moved to do so.I grew up reading Georgette Heyer & have been searching for new authors that could compare. These stories written by Bree Wolf are inspiring & captivating & the balance between romance ,humour, & the depth of the story-line is well balanced.I really enjoy how the character's from other story-lines re-emerge & inform you how their lives are progressing ,as too often a story ends & you are left wondering what turns their lives have taken since you left them. You are carried along with the character's & I often ponder on the story I have just finished long after I have finished reading it & am eager to take up the next book.It is so easy to lose yourself in the story & I am dreading it when I have finished them all & then have to wait for the next book.It will be like missing a friend & leave me saddened.Well worth 5 stars
