The Magical Bed and Breakfast

The Magical Bed & Breakfast:A Small-Town Romance is the second book in the Charmed Love series by Aimee O’Brian. I found this book to be sweet, full of romance, magic and suspense. The book is set in Hazard, Rhode Island and features Kate Mayfield. She is the owner of the old Hazard Inn that she’s renovating and making it into a bed and breakfast. She previously worked for her father in NY as a fixer to the rich and famous. She is concerned as her renovations are quickly running through her money. She realizes she doesn’t have furniture yet and won’t be ready to open to guests yet. Her plan is to try and be historically accurate as much as possible. We also meet hometown boy and rockstar, Rory Rollins. He has acquired a stalker and it is suggested he lays low and so he returns for a lengthy visit with his grandfather to hide out in Hazard. He keeps it secret that he is a rock star. He learns that his grandfather’s house is being readied for tours and there isn’t room for him to stay there. His grandfather packs up all the period furniture in his home and they take it to Kate. It seems that his grandmother had taken the furniture many years back when the Inn was sitting empty. Rory and Kate are told that he will need to stay at the bed & breakfast during his stay. He convinces her to take payment for his stay. They then fill the rooms with the furniture she just received. Also, she is given a piano to use by the grandfather..Kate is afraid of her basement and asks Rory to go down there with her. He shares about being locked in that basement when he was young during a school trip. It left him with nightmares. While downstairs they find secret tunnels that take them outside of the Inn. Rory also experiences seeing people from revolutionary times. He sees and hears their conversations. This is also what happened to him when he was younger and locked in the basement. Kate isn’t able to see or hear anything. While downstairs they find a hidden room with an antique desk that they find an original musical score that is 200+ years old. The couple try to play the music and find it is very complicated. Rory alludes to the fact that he’s a concert pianist and doesn’t tell Kate his real identity.Kate and Rory develop a friendship and initially they don’t realize both have secrets about their lives. After she is confronted by his stalker, she learns his identity and they take care to be safe. He helps with her projects and they talk and their feelings for each other grow. However, her life is in Hazard and he travels and stays away from Hazard. Their future is uncertain.Aimee has given the reader another fabulous story to enjoy. I found the characters all genuine and so likable. I loved how Kate would say she was the innkeeper with a capital I. The addition of the historical scenes being seen only by Rory was an excellent addition and more fun magic for the story. The hidden room and tunnels made for lots of intrigue. Including a stalker and the PR firm added some suspense and angst. Rory and Kate created magic as a couple. The reader was cheering for them. This is a 5 star book I’m happy to recommend.

Just Delightful!!!

I think I loved this one as much or more than The Magical Teashop. I couldn't stop reading this page turner with more historical elements in the small town of Hazard. Kate had taken on a neglected for decades inn and left an intense job working with celebrities to answer a dream in her heart, run her own bed and breakfast. This book is set during Autumn, which becomes like a side character in the magic of Hazard.
