Ho scaricato questo romanzo perché era in omaggio ma non mi sono pentita.La storia, in verità un pochino sopra le righe, ha comunque un buon ritmo e i personaggi non vengono appiattiti su cliché tipici solo per far emergere i due protagonisti e questo è un aspetto positivo.La vicenda inizia con tono drammatico: Megan Rose ha iniziato a scappare da quando l'ex marito violento è stato rilasciato dalla prigione e la sta cercando. Senza un soldo e malata si ritrova davanti alla casa di sua sorella con la quale aveva interrotto i rapporti in seguito ad un fraintendimento. Il primo incontro è un disastro: la sorella si rifiuta di accoglierla ed inoltre è alle prese con un bambino africano che il cognato medico le ha affidato mentre è al lavoro e con il quale non riesce a comunicare.Da questo punto inizia la faticosa risalita della protagonista: accolta in casa del Dr. Ethan Tulane come babysitter del piccolo, e reduce da una polmonite, Megan inizia a cucire i rapporti con le persone che le stanno attorno pian piano recuperando un pochino di fiducia.Anche Ethan ha i suoi problemi: è rientrato dall'Africa con un bambino che ha promesso di crescere e molti sensi di colpa. Non sa da dove cominciare ad occuparsi di Simon e dei traumi che il bambino si porta addosso e gli sembra una buona soluzione accogliere in casa una nanny fissa (sorella si sua cognata) la quale, pur essendo chiaramente ferita, riesce a stabilire un rapporto con Simon.In fondo la trama è tutta qui: l'arrivo di Megan innesca il processo di guarigione di cui tutti i personaggi hanno bisogno regalando al lettore un romanzo non banale.Personalmente ho tifato per Simon, che è il mio preferito!

I enjoyed this story and loved the Megan's character and strength. The story slowly unfolds and relates to abuse and heartache. A great ending.
