Chancery thought that defeating her most vocal enemy would buy her some time, but since her mother died, nothing has gone according to plan. She has a wound that won’t heal, enemies masquerading as friends, and a prophecy that keeps popping up to complicate everything that matters to her.

Noah’s missing, but Chancery’s persistent dreams make her doubt that he’s dead. Meanwhile, she’s been forced into a wedding of state she’s not sure she wants. In the midst of all that, a discovery about her mother’s final weeks throws her into greater confusion. Can Chancery sort friends from foes in time to save not only her family and the world, but also her heart?

Figuring out the many pieces of the puzzle

Back to Chancery and her internal and external struggles. She wasn’t prepared properly for the role she has taken on, and no one can explain or coach her through this prophecy of which she is supposed to be the heart. Or what all these crazy rings are doing. She is still coping with the loss of her mother and unborn sister. Still trying to unravel the murder mystery as well as the secret paternity. Her sisters’ loyalties have her head spinning, not sure who to trust or even where her siblings all are right now. A lot of sadness with the losses and betrayals. (Talking about me! Why???) She is trying to do her best for as many as she can, including the peon humans not many others seem to care about. Edam and Noah are still both fiercely by her side, trying to protect her from herself as much as all the outside threats. She is pretty stubborn still and just does not learn that she can lean on others sometimes. It’s hard to know who to trust when you have people trying to stab you in the back (or the front), literally. A bit more action in this book. Plus a pandemic and some explanations for human messes that perhaps were caused by the evian overlords none of them even know exist. Lots of puzzle pieces to ponder in this one!

Better than the last book

I the characters, the writing is good. There seems to be less recap in this book.Lazy writers sometimes lift whole paragraphs from what has been in other books in the series.

Greatness achieved!

Oh man what a great saga this is. The journey the main characters have traveled was so hard and frustrating but is very rewarding as well. I can't help but fall in love with Chancery and feel her struggles with the turns her life have taken and all the power she possesses. Can't wait to read the next one.
