A fake relationship. A real spark. And a boss who can’t seem to remember this was only pretend.

What could be better than being asked to help head up a big project at work on her first day? Anything but being asked by her boss to pretend to be his girlfriend for the holidays. But when Ellie meets the crazy ex-girlfriend her boss is trying to avoid, she can’t help but agree to be his fake girlfriend.

Brady doesn’t mind being put in charge of the big Christmas gala at work, but when he's forced to work with his ex-girlfriend, he panics. He is clearly not thinking straight when he asks the new intern to stand in as his girlfriend for the duration of the holidays—to keep his ex at bay—but is pleasantly surprised when she agrees to the scheme.

Thrown together in mishaps and close encounters, Ellie and Brady keep up the ruse for family and friends. Balancing the fake relationship with real feelings, can they fool everyone around them, or are they just fooling themselves?

Cute but incomplete

I really liked the couple and thought they worked well together. I understand why he was drawn to her, but he remained a wimp most of the time, never able to stand up to his ex-girlfriend. The only time we would have been able to see that growth, the author didn't include any details. I felt there were too many loose ends, insufficiently glossed over for a conclusion. The story was fun and I liked the characters, but it could have used another ten or twenty pages to resolve things. Still, a fair and clean holiday romance.

Okay

I really like this author but this is probably my least favorite book I have read from her. It just felt really incomplete and like there was not enough fullness to the story line.

Christmas in July pick!

This was my Christmas in July pick this year, and it didn’t disappoint! Short and sweet, a bit of a Hallmark vibe but not quite as cheesy. While I probably prefer Stockton’s Regency stories, I’m adding the next in the series to my TBR. A fun contemporary romance to get you in the Christmas spirit anytime.

He needs a solution to his conniving ex

You love to hate his ex. You also love to see his work colleague step up to the challenge. Dang she's good. Maybe she brings out all of the best in him, too.

Sometimes work gets sticky when you are assigned to work with your practically irresistibly conniving ex. The perfect solution? Beg the nice, unexpectedly competent, green colleague to salvage you from drowning in your own awkward weakness.

Now that you're unofficially official, things are going more smoothly, UNTIL your ex makes sure everyone in your family is involved. Wow! That lie just blew up into a whole new sphere of proportion and consequence. It's a good thing your colleague is so good at being professional and a genuinely affectionate person. Maybe keeping her around forever is a good idea?

I love to see the manipulative seductresses lose. Does that mean there's something wrong with me?

liked it

I must start by saying that I’m not fond of these contemporary novels; however, this one is very nice and I enjoyed the characters (Brady was no my favorite one). Light reading and a happy ending.
