An independent single mom who doesn’t believe in love at first sight collides with a man who does.

Cyan Hewitt drifts onto his estranged grandparents’ New Mexico ranch in time for Thanksgiving...and stays. As a cyber security consultant, he can telecommute, so why not from here, where his restless soul is soothed and his heart is awakened by the attractive ranch housekeeper?

Maria Sanchez works at Rancho de Esperanza to provide a stable life for her son. She’s content - mostly - in her roles as housekeeper, part-time student, and mom, but when her precocious seven-year-old is diagnosed with diabetes, her world shatters. There’s no time for distractions from the long-term visitor who’s stirring a longing in her for more.

Cyan may think her faith and courage are inspiring, but Maria feels vulnerable. Relying on others has only ever resulted in broken dreams. Christmas might be a season of hope, but does she dare risk everything for love?

Heart warming romance

I loved this novella and can't wait to read more about Cyan, Maria, and Calvin in future Hope Ranch books. This story was touching, and I felt a real connection to the main characters. Just lovely.

Surprised and delighted

Elizabeth Maddrey is one of my very favourite authors. I've read all her books except this series. I'm not really keen on stories set on ranches! I gave in and decided to give them a try. Really glad I did! It was great to see how Azure's visit to the ranch in the Peacock Hill series fit into the story but Maria and Cyan's story was beautiful. Being English I was sorely tempted to reduce my star rating after reading the abomination of how Maria makes tea in the microwave! But I'm not that mean!

Good

I just love "the blues", as I call them. Want to read the story on each of them. Cyan sure had a tough job convincing Maria to "let him in" to their lives. Love the sermon. Can't get enough of this series.

Great story, great message.

This overtly Christian story has great characters and a realistic plot. There's no preaching but for one church service scene, but the characters talk about God, His grace, and the meaning of Christmas. And I'm left with the idea of forgiveness... not so much the forgiveness we bestow on others or that God bestows on us, but forgiveness we show ourselves. We should not be holding on to guilt for sins that God has blotted out.Great story, great message.A critical review mentioned something about <<“hot, sandy beaches” in New Mexico>> but the sentence in the book was describing how opposite the US state of New Mexico is to the hot, sandy beaches of the touristy areas of parts of Mexico.
