The first time I saw Alexander Drake, he was staring back at me from the cover of Financial Life magazine. Rich. Powerful. Handsome. Completely unattainable.

Or so I thought.

Turns out he wasn’t just a glossy cover model—he was real. And worse? He was about to become my best friend Lucy’s brother-in-law. When she finally introduced us, I did the unthinkable.

I swooned. Hard.

Which wouldn’t be so humiliating if I weren’t Kayla Benson—confident, independent, and usually the one causing the swooning, not doing it. But while I was busy forgetting how to breathe, Alexander barely noticed me at all.

And that? That simply wouldn’t do.

So I decided to ruffle his perfectly pressed feathers and step straight into his carefully controlled world. What started as a harmless challenge quickly turned into something neither of us expected—because Alexander Drake may look untouchable, but even the most polished men have cracks in their armor.

Until her thirtieth birthday changes everything.

Fueled by a long-buried dream and a sudden craving for freedom, Grace buys a one-way ticket to Lavender Island, Texas, determined to finally see the legendary Halstead House she’s heard about her entire life.

What she finds is more than a mansion.

Swept up in island life, Grace lands a temporary job as an assistant event planner, forms unexpected friendships, and finds herself in oddly comforting therapy sessions with the estate’s no-nonsense housekeeper. And then there’s John Lucas—the Halstead heir, an aloof businessman who keeps everyone at arm’s length, especially her.

As Grace begins to discover who she is without the script she’s always followed, she must decide whether she’s brave enough to claim the life—and love—she never thought was possible.

Kayla, yay! Alexander, yeah.

This is the second book of a series (following Just Enough Luck). Since Kindle didn't tell me that, I read this one first. (I am currently reading the other one.) The story is clean, and I don't remember any egregious errors in the text. (Good job, copy editors!)As long as you don't analyze it too much, this story is quite enjoyable. Our heroine Kayla is a well-rounded character who makes interesting choices and has a nice friendship with her (soon-to-be ex-) roommate, Lucy. Kayla's journey is often nice to read. Our hero Alexander is not nearly as well-developed. He doesn't really have a journey, or character growth, the way Kayla does. He has a brother and parents, but we really don't see them much in this book. The other people in his orbit treat him as a silent, judgmental robot. Why should the dynamic Kayla go for such a man? Because she understands his inner pain (that we don't see, we just hear about it). Also, he's supposed to be hot. That's enough, right? There are a few interchangeable background characters at the ranch. Willow and Pamela are the only ones who seem to have any distinguishing characteristics. I expect their backstories could be compelling. As long as you don't expect too much, this will be just enough.

Fun romantic two book series with quirky characters and dialog

I really enjoyed these two books that focus on two roommates who area as close as sisters. Both books are fun reads that leave you wanting more of the characters, the romance, and the creative dialog. I’m reviewing both books because they are so intertwined. I particularly liked book 2 because the romantic relationship is more unusual and the tone is more fun and cheeky. It also reminds me of the movie Sabrina because of the straight-laced male protagonist that needs to be drawn out of his self-made bubble to experience friendship and love. I highly recommend this book series.

Loved it!

I adored this book! It is witty, funny, and sweet, and it was a joy to read it. I laughed several times and I also teared up once; it made me feel so many emotions! The story is only from Kayla’s perspective, which fits this story perfectly. I love when books are dual perspective so I can get to know the hero and the heroine better, but I’m so glad this book wasn’t written that way! Alexander seems cold and standoffish at first, but as Kayla gets to know him better, so does the reader, and the reader ends up falling in love with him alongside Kayla. I loved that!I recommend reading Just Enough Luck before reading this one, as Lucy and Daniel from that book are featured prominently in this book too. Story elements from Just Enough Luck aren’t spoiled in this book, but the reader knows what happens next for them, which is why I’m glad I read Just Enough Luck first.Building off of that, I loved Kayla and Lucy’s friendship so much! They are hilarious to read about, and the way they care about and support each other is great. There is a bittersweet aspect to their friendship in this book (not giving details so as not to spoil anything), but I thought it was so well done and I appreciated that part of the story.I loved this book and I can’t wait to read whatever Aspen Hadley publishes next!

Loved it!

I love, Love, LOVED this book: Just Enough Magic. When reading the last book, with Lucy and Daniel, I thought there was no way, anytime soon, someone would be able to break through Alexander's tough-as-a-walnut-shell exterior. I couldn't have been happier to be proven so wrong! I really enjoyed Kayla being shot down for acting overly aggressive in trying to gain Alex's attention, friend-zoning herself after telling him how attracted she was to him, and then reading how their friendship turned to more. This is one of those books that just makes you happy when you've finished. I also love that it's a clean romance but still has plenty of chemistry and hot kisses.
Keep them coming, Aspen. Keep them coming.

Book Synopsis:
"The first time I saw Alexander Drake, I was looking at his picture on the cover of a Financial Life magazine. I’d have to have been blind not to notice what a total catch he was. Rich, handsome, and completely make believe. Only, he wasn’t some fake cover model. He was a real person, soon-to-be brother-in-law of my best friend Lucy, and when she introduced us for the first time, I swooned. Hard. Me. Kayla Benson. Master of male-female relationships, strong, independent, and the one usually being swooned over. The worst part? While I was busy catching my breath – my eyes so dazed they might as well have been crossed - he hadn’t even bothered to look my way. Suddenly I wanted nothing more than to ruffle his feathers and see what could happen if I became a force in his life’s bubble. So . . . I did."
