Liv Phelps has a plan—and love isn’t part of it.

She’s determined to earn her degree, stay fiercely independent, and save her family by building a life far from the small town that’s always held her back. Romance, feelings, and distractions have no place in her carefully mapped future.

Then Blaine Harris walks into the diner where she works.

Charming, confident, and nothing like the men she grew up around, Blaine opens Liv’s eyes to a world she’s only ever dreamed about. For the first time, she wonders if maybe her plan could bend just a little.

Until her unreliable car forces her straight into the path of Connor Hunt.

Local mechanic. Infamous reputation. And firmly on Liv’s do not disturb list after years of watching him make one bad choice after another. But Connor’s a magician with engines, and when he offers to fix her car in exchange for her cleaning his shop once a week, Liv reluctantly agrees.

What she doesn’t expect is how one simple yes will unravel everything she thought she wanted—and challenge her to decide whether running away is braver than staying and risking her heart.

oddly captivating

Written so coldly, and matter of factly, yet somehow so emotional and REAL.I think I could not have related more to a character than I did this protagonist.

Strong story line & characters

Aspen Hadley is an auto read/buy for me. I loved the humor and dry wit. Her characters were very relatable. I thought it was fabulous the h was curly haired & got the trials of having curls spot on,lol! The h had a full plate with some sad, hard situations & I thought it was well written. Also the way Aspen Hadley had the h navigate everything was well done. I feel like this was written to true life & I was able to emphatize. There were some hilarious moments. The best friend scenes & dialogoue were fabulous. Good strong multi dimensional characters, nuggets of wisdom, character growth, introspection, sweet moments with the h & H. The only terrible thing is I read it so fast & so soon after release that I may have to wait awhile for her next book. Sad girl hours, lol!

Almost the Best Book

This was so fun to read up until the last misunderstanding. It was resolved fairly quickly, but come on. Other than that, I super enjoyed it. It drew me in, had fun banter and friendships, and I loved how meaty it was instead of fluffy and shallow. Liv was a fun main character when she wasn't annoyingly standoffish. The men in it weren't always easy to read, and I liked that. I thought the whole incident with the tire iron was hilarious and was surprised that he got so mad. I appreciated the lack of a love triangle. I wish there were more books like this, just without the break ups over misunderstandings.

Sweet story

This was a sweet and quick little romantic story that I enjoyed. Reading was easy and fast with a good amount of character development.

Such a sweet romance!

This is my first book by Aspen Hadley, but I'm hooked. This felt like everything I love about Hallmark movies, but with more depth and character growth.Liv Phelps is a fiercely independent woman, working her way through school and juggling a chaotic home life with her mom and sister. Her new boyfriend, Blaine, is like a breath of fresh air. He is put together, rich, handsome, and very into making her life easier. When her beat up car needs repairs, she has to turn to the only mechanic in town. Enter Conner Hunt, town bad boy, car magician, and the person that Liv has tried to avoid since she was a teenager. He and Liv work out a system to help her pay off the repairs on her car, which leads to them crossing paths and spending more time together than Liv ever wanted.I loved Liv as a main character. She was driven and snarky, two of my favorite character traits, but she was also flawed and closed off to pretty much everyone except her best friend. I was excited watching her find out what her happy ending would look like, because I wanted it all for her. I wanted her to get the guy, the good grades and the life outside of her small town. And Conner. I just love him. He was also snarky and flawed, and much more than the bad boy that he had been labeled by the town. He definitely came with his own baggage, but in the end, I just loved him all that much more for it.This book was a winner for me. It was a mug of hot chocolate full of marshmallows, warm and happy. I'm excited to read more of her books.
