There are two types of people in the world: the hunters and the hunted.

Aislynn stopped believing her father’s stories of superhuman enemies long ago. People with glowing green eyes who can shock a person to death? Come on. Things like that don’t exist.

She wants to live a normal high school life, one where Dane Breckenridge, the football team’s resident hot guy, might notice her.

But her mother died under suspicious circumstances, and that’s changed everything.

Aislynn is drafted into an ancient Egyptian war whether she wants it or not.

And Dane? He’s not nearly as innocent as he seems.

Son of War, Daughter of Chaos is a pulse-pounding thriller with a slow-burn romance that takes you around the world. Experience a kiss in a desert storm, a flight across the Arctic, and footsteps in a deserted Egyptian tomb. If you like supernatural romance, teen urban fantasy, or teen paranormal romance books, snatch up this sweet romance today!

Can't get enough!

This book is incredible! Janette is so gifted that she can make you believe that mythical things are true. The conflict between Horusians and Setites is intensified in the girl who descended from both, and kind of represents the conflict in all of us about determining right from wrong. Aislynn can see good in both sides of her inheritance, and so can I. I like the hero, but I do have some issues about his single-mindedness. He justifies a lot of pain that he puts Aislynn through that I truly do not believe she deserved. Yes, some was necessary, but using her for his own ends over and over wasn't. What I am hoping for is, not only a sequel which takes them up to the end of the prescribed year, but I would love love love to have it written from Dane's point of view. I want to know so much that can only be learned from his perspective. Again, this book is amazing. I am constantly impressed at how Janette can write clean, moral, exciting, funny, adventurous, poignant books that leave you thinking in a new way. I recommend this book to everyone with absolutely no reservations. But please, give us "the rest of the story" from Dane's point of view!

superhuman abilities and they would both like to wipe out the other

Definitely different from Rallison's previous offerings, this book has a much darker feel to it than what she usually writes. But her trademark humor does occasionally show itself and the concept itself is really interesting. 2 warring factions that can trace their origins back to ancient Eygpt continue their battle today, hidden from the eyes of the general population. Set, the Egyptian god of Chaos, is associated with one group while the other group follows the ancient Egyptian god Horus. We don't see any actual worshipping, rather the focus is on the conflict that has existed between the 2 groups for thousands of years. Each has special, superhuman abilities and they would both like to wipe out the other. Aislynn has grown up in a family that descends from these groups, although as a Senior in high school she has no idea that they even exist. But she soon finds herself pulled into a war that she really wants no part of. Especially since she knows and cares about people on both sides of the conflict.Things I liked: I liked Aislynn for the most part. She was definitely worth cheering for despite some poor choices made (in my opinion). I liked the Egyptian historical & mythological tie to the groups. I liked Aislynn's solution to her own personal conflicted feelings (although we didn't see it until the end of the book). It is definitely risky, but shows her good desires and her strength of character (which earlier on in the story I was questioning as she stayed with a particular group that preyed on regular humans & justifies the behavior as something good/doing society a favor by removing these poor excuses of humanity). I liked and respected her strong feelings of love and loyalty to her family and her conflicted feelings about the people she cared about. Sometimes we can love & care about people that do terrible things, but we can't and shouldn't condone their bad choices and decisions. She had a hard time walking that line and I could respect that (even though I didn't like and was frustrated awhile at her lack of action. I felt that even though she didn't participate specifically in those wrong activities, she was still condoning it by staying with those people. Thank goodness she came through in the end).Things I didn't like: The romantic love triangle. Yeck. The speed at which Aislynn was willing to kiss a guy (or guys) that she was just barely getting to know. Again, yeck. But she started to make up for this towards the end of the story. And how long she stayed with the group that was murdering people for personal gain (refer back to last comment in the like section). The book does come to a conclusion, but there are open threads to the story that could lead to a sequel someday. I didn't mind it (a few open threads--life is messy) and I did like the book overall. It definitely captured my attention and held it through to the end.

Sooo good!

I've been in a reading slump for a couple of months, so to fix that I decided to turn to Janette Rallison to get me out of it. I'm so glad I can always count on her. :)This book was quite a bit different from the other books I've read by Janette. She usually writes romantic comedy's, this had a lot more action and mystery going on...and I loved it!I'm actually surprised that this wasn't picked up by a major publisher. It has New York Times bestseller written all over it in my opinion. Actually it is way better than many of the Young Adult books on that list already.Seriously, as I read this I was just in awe of what a good writer Janette is. I've been trying to figure out how to go about writing my current young adult romance, and reading this showed me just how far I have to go to be at her level.Anyway, back to the review. :) This book is about a teenage girl named Aislynn who has grown up with a very paranoid father. She doesn't get to really go any where on her own, because her brother Roark is always there to chaperone her and keep her safe from "the enemy"--who she has never met and wonders if they really exist. But aside from the moving around all the time, and weird security measures her father puts her through, Aislynn tries to live a normal life. When they move to Arizona after her mother's death, she meets a boy named, Dane, in her World History class. When Dane starts hanging out with her brother, she knows it's time to finally take this chance and get him to notice her, but little does she know Dane has a few secrets of his own.Of course a lot goes on that I can't write about without spoiling anything. But this book had a great balance between romance and action...so girls and guys will both enjoy this.
