Three men, a series of Highland contests, one prize: the chief’s daughter.

As the daughter of the chief, Marion McEwan has no say in who her husband will be—a troublesome fact when the one man she doesn’t wish to marry, her awful cousin Simon, is the leading contender for her hand. So when Marion’s father hosts a gathering for the purpose of choosing her husband, she welcomes the broader selection. He invites a few select men—her cousin included—to participate in a series of contests to test their strength, fortitude, and worthiness. The victor will win her hand in marriage. Marion’s plan? Do whatever she must to steer the outcome of the games away from what seems a terrible fate.

When Cormac McEwan receives a summons from his chief, he has no choice but to report to Castle Moraigh right away. Unmarried and with little to his name, it comes as a pleasant surprise to learn that he’s been thrown in the running to marry the chief’s daughter. Win the place as Marion’s husband, and Cormac would be set, his family taken care of—his sister protected. The only problem? Someone doesn’t want to play fair, and they seem bent on making certain that Cormac doesn’t make it out of Castle Moraigh alive.

Facing a common enemy, Marion and Cormac find themselves working together. But can they rig the games and keep Cormac safe? Or will Marion find herself married to a brute?

Cliff Hanger Finish

This book reads like the second in a series, but now we delve into Marion’s story. The pressure is on for McEwan to select a husband for his daughter - one who will share his political goals. Simon seems the likely choice, but readers are left to guess what will happen. The story ends on a cliff hanger and a promise of one more epic romance in the final installment.

Loved it!

I adore books set in Scotland, and after loving Journey to Bongary Spring, I was excited to read Through the Fairy Tree! And it had so many things I enjoy in books, including a competition, Scottish accents, strong main characters, and a little bit of intrigue!Competition books are always fun, and I loved how the competitions in this book were written. It actually brought back a lot of memories for me because I used to attend the Ohio Scottish Games, where they would have games like the ones in this book. There’s a scene where Marion plays her Clàrsach, which made me so happy since I play the Celtic harp! This book is atmospheric and the descriptions are great; I felt like I was right there with the characters, and it made me want to visit Scotland so badly!I recommend reading Journey to Bongary Spring before this book. Cormac and Marion are the main characters for this one, but there is an overarching storyline in this series, so they should be read in order. It was fun to see Kieran and Isobel from the first book again! And I am so excited for the next book, especially after the couple for the third book had a memorable meeting in this book!5/5 stars!

An Exceedingly Grand Tale To Be Sure!!

Oh How I Absolutely Loved This Book!In every aspect it was grand! This is one of the better books I've read in a while - no exaggeration! The setting, the storyline, and the characters ~ All so very well put together - and so well written!I was on the edge of my seat for several parts of this book. It was thrilling, engaging, and kept me guessing for a bit... It was hard to put down.A bit of historical facts thrown in make it feel authentic.Beautiful chemistry and romantic attraction between Marion and Cormac.~ One of my favorite romantic lines ~~"Cormac kissed Marion as though it was his only opportunity, and he was absolutely certain of two things: she was sweeter than plum cake, and he loved her."I smiled at that, and I think I may have giggled too.You do need to read the first book in this series before this second one. They are tied and flow one into the next, chronologically, with some of the same situations and characters continuing. The first book in this series was good. This second one was even better!I can't wait for the next in the series!!If you like really good Scottish clean romantic fiction, I highly recommend this series!💜

I loved the first book in this series, read it in order because of the overarching political plot.

4.5🐑This book starts directly where book 1 ends with some Highland games to win the hand of Marion and be the next chief in line. Marion’s father has picked 3 men to contend. Her despicable cousin, a Moraigh man and an unknown outsider. Marion always knew the fate of her future was up to her father but as she tries to sabotage the games for one, it fails and hurts another.🐑Cormac is happy to receive notice from the chief to visit although he has no idea why. And as flattering as it is to be in line for chief and win the chief’s daughter, he feels unsuitable but he’s drawn to Marion. Maybe it’s the fairies weaving their magic. But someone is out to hurt him.🐑This follows multiple POV and I’m eager for the next book! The Highland games was fun but there were days between events and I felt that switch in POV slowed the pacing. This series shows how much of a master mind Kasey can be at weaving multiple narratives with a touch of whimsy, romance and intrigue.

Phenomenal, incredible read!

Dear Lady Stockton,Once again, you have exceeded my expectations and written a story so captivating, I know I shall be thinking of it for weeks to come! You succeeded at writing a story that didn’t change setting (not really, anyway) but never grew dull, and it is rich, full, and beautifully well done! You know I have adored your Regencies and contemporaries since I discovered your books, but you’ve proven you can write Scottish historical romances just as masterfully.I must tell you that I love how immersive an experience this book felt. While I do not claim to be an expert on the Scottish accent, the way you wrote in the accent was exceptional. I’ve had a Scottish voice in my head for days and I don’t see that ending any time soon. If anything I say comes out a wee bit Scottish, you now know why.I also find it impressive how well you write a book from so many POVs without it being overwhelming. Every single POV adds to the overall storyline, and I see how things from the first book played an important role in this one. I was ceaselessly amazed at how seamless the story felt despite so many POVs. In addition, there is a lot going on here but it doesn’t feel overdone. Every single thread, every subplot, feels necessary. Your story shines all the brighter for every single piece. (Side note: the Highland games interspersed throughout was a really fun touch. I spent a long time researching and watching videos of the events and I loved picturing your characters competing in those events!)It’s possible I’ve praised your storytelling enough now. Allow me to move on to your characters. Cormac is absolutely swoony. You’ve written a perfect book boyfriend and I don’t mind saying it. I loved his integrity and kindness, his care for his sister and the way he treated everyone with respect (even when they didn’t deserve it). I also love Marion, and her spunk and vivacity. And oh, how I loved how good Cormac was for her! He helped bring out the best in her and encouraged her to be better than she was. I loved that dynamic!I have mixed feelings about Alexander & Katherine, though this book has me tipping in favor of them. The ending was especially good for them both. I do not like Simon. Or Brian. But I’m sure you guessed that. Ian is such a dear and I desperately want to see more of him in future. Ooh, I also really like Miles. I need his story! I am exceptionally curious how things will work out for Ealann. I want her story, too. There are a lot of pieces to her puzzle that I want to be able to put in place and I look forward to doing that.My only bones to pick with this book involve a semi-cliffhanger (and you know how I feel about those) and a certain someone not getting his comeuppance about a certain stone. As all the virtues of this book far outweigh any cons, that is all I shall say on the matter.Your place on my favorite author list is still firmly in place. I look forward to more of your books in future to just prove how much you deserve to be there.Yours,Jessica**Many thanks to the author for a gifted copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
