Editorial Reviews

"A book like this reminds me why I love the fantasy world so much. Etta and Alex were such great characters with complex personalities that it truly made them easy to connect with. It was fantastic to see the range of emotions that they went through just in this story. I highly recommend this book if you love fantasy retellings, curses, magic, and action."

About the Author

I'm a USA Today Bestselling author of fantasy, contemporary romance, and romantic comedies. Fantasy was my first and forever love with the bestselling "Golden Curse". I love taking old stories and turning them around until they're almost unrecognizable except to the most avid fans. I write books to challenge myself, tackling hard topics or places so different from my own. Studying ancient cultures, architecture, and folklore is one of the best parts of being an author.I've written more than seventy stories full of magic, love, and friendship, and at thirty-three, have no plans to ever stop.

Fantastic Rapunzel Inspired Story

#rapunzel Is A Retelling That I’m Not Sure If It Has Been Done A Lot Or If I’m Just Not Seeing Them 🤷‍♂️ When I Saw #goldencurse By #mlynn Was A Rapunzel Retelling & Then Paired With The Synopsis (Which I’ll Include In The Comments) I Was Sold 🤑First & Foremost I Have To Shout With Excitement That This Book Contains One Of My Favourite Elements/Tropes Which Is A Competition/Tournament. Since Reading #thehungergames For The First Time I Am Obsessed With Anything Containing This Within It’s Story. This Tournament Felt Very Fresh & Fully Captured My Attention As A Reader With It’s High Action & Underlying Political Scheming! 😏Persinette Is Such An Enjoyable POV. I Really Loved Her Origin Of Seeing Someone Flee From The Royal Life At A Young Age And Having To Return Due To A Curse On Her Family. This Was Such A Breath Of Fresh Heir On Royalty That Features In A Lot Of Fantasy I Have Read. Driven By This Objective We See Her Display Drive, Charm, Deception & Intellect To Achieve This By Any Means Necessary. I Felt She Was Such A Fully Realised Character That This Driving Force Behind Her Actions Really Justified The Lengths She Would Go & Made Her Feel Tangible To Me As A Reader. 🥹I Was Shocked By The Time I Reached The Last Chapter As I Had Read This In A Single Seating And Didn’t Realise How Much I Had Digested Of This Story. Definitely A Fantastic Display Of Captivating Storytelling So You Know For Sure I Will Be Picking Up The Next Book In This Series! 😍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

An Exciting & Fresh Retelling of a Classic!

This book was so good I literally read it in a single day! I personally enjoy fairy tale retellings and Michelle, the author, has a talent for exciting, different retellings! This review contains a few spoilers, though it won't give away the whole plot!Persinette, or Etta, is a fierce and passionate heroine. Based loosely on Rapunzel, you're more likely to find Etta running into battle to save the day and the prince rather than waiting in a tower for a prince to save her. This is most definitely a story of betrayal. Etta's father was like a brother to the king, his protector, until the king had her father construct magical wards around the kingdom letting none with magic in or out. Then the king began a "purge" going after everyone with magic. It didn't matter if they were good, bad or like a brother to him.Etta and her father flee to the Dark Forest where his magic conceals them and allows him to train Etta, to make her strong and fierce. For not only does Etta have magic, like her father she is cursed. From the day she turns 18 she will be magically bound to Prince Alex, the son of the king, the man her father is bound to and the one who hunts everyone for simply being born with magic. Her father works to prepare her for her life bound to an enemy of all magical people. A man it will physically hurt her to be away from. And when the opportunity arises to become Price Alex's protector, she seizes it.As Alex's Protector it is her duty to be with him nearly always. Though there are those who would stand in her way and try to keep them separate, she is around him enough to see he struggles with the kind of king he wants to become. As children, Alex and Etta were friends. But after the purge started, Alex was forced to watch his father zealously hunt down those with magic and spent years listening to his father's teaching that magic was evil and so were those who possessed it.As a young man Alex must figure out for himself what is right, what is wrong and what kind of ruler he plans to be. But will any of them be able to overcome a series of betrayals? This book has definitely left me wanting more and I can't wait to finish Alex and Etta's story!
